So i wanna turbo charge my 5vz-fe in my 1999 PreRunner. Now my plan so far is to use the CXracing turbo kit (people seem to be getting good results). Now before you tell me the disadvantages of the kit i already know them, but its much cheaper than a SC (well probably not after tuning etc.) Anyway i wanted to run it like this: Map3ECU, CXracing kit, and whatever turbo I choose... Now i noticed some thing on the MapECU website, they don't make a plug and play harness for the 98-99 year model V6 Taco's. I have no idea why maybe someone else does? Is there something weird about 98-99 ECU that doesn't respond well to boost? Also if i cant find an alternative can i swap my 99 ecu for a 97? or a 2000? Also aside from the map3 i shouldn't need any other tuning goodies right? Lol I've never tuned anything before but i thing this'll be a good start. I think after Christmas of this year i should have all of what i need pieced together. Thanks!

Look on URD's website. They probably have an extension harness (plug n play) that you can wire into, instead of the OEM harness. The tuning is pretty easy on the Map-ECU3. You do need the ability to see fuel trims though.

If I remember correctly, there was a file already loaded on the Map2 for a 5vz. Not sure on the 3.

Anyway, you will need larger injectors to be able to add enough flow to feed the engine HP you are after, without maxing their duty cycle.

www.rceng.com has a very good calculator.

    Upgrade your fuel pump.
Get a step colder set of spark plugs.
    Add a new fuel filter.
    Larger injectors.
Knock-off wastegate or BOV will cause you problems.

Thanks for responding! Alright so i was looking at some 550cc injectors on ebay that seem reputable, I'll check URD but i sent MAPECU an email just to make sure they don't make a harness, At the moment im using e3 spark plugs would those be ok? Also I've never tuned or had anything tuned what would be a reasonable price for a tune? Also i noticed you're in the Houston area do you know of any good shops that do tunes? (lol cause i sure don't)

Of course. Just means you have more injector overhead and room to grow horsepower wise. Better safe than sorry.

I know a high quality shop whom I trust 100%. Kozmic Motorsports. However, "reasonable" is subjective. They will tune it though and their tuner is very thorough.

Don't cheap out on injectors. I cannot warn enough against that.

    Kinda stock
With a MAPECU you are going to need to build that table up from scratch. The only base tables I saw are for the supercharger. I stole ideas from that table to tune my truck. If you aren't planning to tune it yourself don't get a mapecu3 unless a shop near you knows what it is.

The quick and dirty way is to do something like a 7th port. All you need to do is pull some timing, skew the o2 sensors a bit to help with low boost, and just add fuel during open loop.

I think URD makes a jumper harness for your truck. It isn't PNP until you solder some wires together.

There is a shop around here that can do it so I'm not too concerned about that but I am gonna try it myself. I'll probably go with the Urd extension for the ECU.

Both will. You'll just be lower in the efficiency range with the 35. If you want room to grow though, it will be much better for overhead room.

I highly recommend ball bearing. It will greatly reduce the spool time, in combination with the properly matched turbine A/R.
