Rangers got a chance. But, honestly, I don't think either make it past their first match up.

The Rangers do have two right handed starters that could cause the Jays to have issues posting the huge offense they usually do. I'm a Jays fan and I don't think we have an easy match up against the Rangers. I was hoping for the Angels or Astros off the bat but we will take whatever playoff match up we can get.

2010, 2012, 2014 say I'm right. Besides, I said they were 'preparing' to get the Championship back. Not a stretch at all to say this. So, lets sit back and see what Magics 276 million a year gets you this year. Holy crap, the Doyers haven't even seen a World Series game since 1998.

As a Maple Leafs fan, I can tell you spending tons of dough does not equal championships. The Giants have had a very good run as of late. They are do to cool off soon unless they want to post +$200 million dollar payrolls and that only helps make the playoffs, not win them.

Their payroll was in the high 170 mil mark this year. But a ton of injuries to primary dudes, like Pence. They trim a lot of payroll next year with the end of Lincecums contrat, retirement of Affledt, and Hudson. The end (finally) of contracts to players long departed. They'll save around 40 mil. They'll commit that to some quality pitching, which they lacked this year. They'll be back in the high 180 mil to 190 mil next year, depending on what Free Agents they go after. They have a solid core of home grown youngsters in the infield now. Duffy, Panik (pending outcome of his back treatment), Crawford, Belt, Posey, Timlenson, etc… With Bumgarner, possibly Cain rehabilitated ( a big if ), Peavy (sketchy but fiery), hopefully resign Leake, it's a very good start.

Exactly. What you'll have is a team that can make the dance. Whether or not they can win it depends to much on finding things like quality pitching and injuries staying away. Everyone gets way to caught up in money in baseball because of the Yankees. A decent payroll is just one part of building a winner.

Dude, I never said they were going to go to the World Series. I said they were preparing. Every team should be. But the Giants have a winning formula. They have to go for it while Posey and Pence are still in their prime.

While the Giants have been in the Top Ten in payroll, they've been pretty strict about how much they're willing to spend. I'd say that worked out for them in 3 outta 5 years. There are no guarantees, no one said there were. Injury bug bit them big this year. I'm sayin' they're lined up good to make another serious run.

Their window is still widely open. Bumgarner is what, 25? Posey is 28 so he's fine and Panik, Duffy, Crawford, Belt, Tomlinson all are under 25.

Salary will always rise, minors are full of pitching prospects that may or may not pan out. But to call them due for a cooling off, is a bit foolish.

So every top five team in salary should win every two years? Pencil that out. I'm not saying the window is closing, but @Don5352 was acting like the giants are guaranteed to win it all again next year with some free agency acquisitions.

I didn't take it as such. I think SF is about three starters away and maybe a strong LF before they can be STRONG contenders. They can string a long some wins now but to compete with the rest of the NL, not just LA they need some help.

3 out of 5 starters away

That's like me saying the Jays are only 12 wins away from another championship. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't, and those decent 3 starters aren't always easy to find. Lots of if's for the giants to win another championship. Sure you can go buy 3 starters, but try finding 3 that keep their ERA under 5 on the open market for straight up cash. It's not easy.
