New to the forum, first post.
I bought a used 2006 tacoma. It was a lease truck for an oilfield janitorial company with 240k on it, so its not mint by any means. Frame was orange and flakier than normal surface rust, but no major rot by the cat or anything. The diff's as orange as the frame. Northern alberta truck, eight years old, still seemed bad.

I had 2 tacoma owners in Edmonton tell me that toyota blasted and coated their frames as part of a recall, they both said it took a few days. My girlfriend went in to see if mine was eligible... It was, they said it would take a few days, they didn't mention a rental. Busy busy out there, Toyota's booking months in advance and I work 13 hr days 24/4.

Family problems, had to take some time off work, I decided to get the tacoma dealt with while I'm at home on Vancouver Island. The dealership I went to said one day, and I get a rental from 8-5. I was skeptical right away with the one day, but when I called back they said there's dry time and I get the courtesy overnight, so I booked it. And the seatbelt recall.

CRC was done now, and a wax-based internal rust inhibitor inside the frame. I'm blown away by how half-ass the job was. The main thing is the overspray - it's everywhere. all over the back of my cab, exhaust, all over my engine and pulleys, tires/rims, everywhere. A week later the truck still stinks like burnt rubber. I can't see any lines where they masked anything, there's even overspray on the underside of the hood, so that tells you how much is peppered all over the engine. There are quite a few missed spots, and I can see the edges of the old peeling coating through the new coating. I can't see any evidence of any blast or wire-wheel or any prep at all, just spray over flaky rust, maybe a hand scrape but not much of one. We're on a water restriction and the truck was dirty, so they sprayed the frame dirty. I guess it's better than them wash it and then spray it on a wet frame? I don't know what I expected in an 8 hour day, but better than this! It's not as bad as the guy on page 9 posted, they did remove the spare and do that crossmember but wherever they put the spare they still managed to get overspray all over it.
I don't know what to do. The customer-service staff was fine and the guys at enterprise rentals were great, but the bodyshop and/or the techs working really sprayed rubberized undercoating all over my engine bay and exhaust and I don't exactly want a hack with a grudge trying to scrape it off. I'm going to go talk to a couple other toyota dealerships. I tried to get the contact info for Toyota Canada and I found this forum. Any advice, tacoma gurus?

Hey folks. New at posting here but been lurking for a while.

Bought my 07 DCLB TRD Sport in the spring. Failed the inspection when done in August. Was told that it could be a year before I get my new frame.

I'm hoping it was wrong, but it's been a month and I haven't heard anything more. Did anyone get paperwork from the dealership early on? I have nothing from them so far.

No,i don t recall getting any papers, though the Dealer itself gave me a copie of the frame replacement order, with all the parts on the list to be replace.
I did asked if i could get a copie and they agreed.

Talked to Service Rep today. No paperwork right now. There's something like 20 ahead of me, all waiting. Could be a while...

Does any one have pictures of their frames before they have been replaced?

Dealership was actually pretty vague other than "they found a hole" - no photos, etc. I'm hopingn to crawl underneath this weekend and have a look myself.

Does anybody know how to get Toyota Canada to acknowledge an American recall? I know that the frame recall is good for Canada too, although my Taco is experiencing the headlight running lamp issue and Toyota said it only applies to American customers (even though my VIN is applicable). I know it's not related to this thread although I figured some of you guys would have experience dealing with recalls and Toyota.

    Thanks in advance!

Some good info about U.S. trucks in Canada from Sam_i02 on page 6 of this thread. I'm in the same boat. Looks like I'll be calling Toyota Canada to open a case file.

I'm going to look into that for sure. I figured I'd end up contacting Toyota Canada anyway. My truck isn't actually a US truck, although the VIN is within the range of affected vehicles. Not sure how that works but it seems to be the case.

Let me know how yours goes and I'll do the same!

I probably won't be able to get around to it until next month, but I'll report back once I've had a chance to follow through.

Called the dealership today and they're now actually doing frame jobs here. Looks like I'll be within next few months. Saw one behind the dealership that had been swapped out of another Tacoma that was pretty rough. Will be interested to see how bad mine is!

They also anticipate a solution to the rear leaf recall soon too, so maybe I'll have both at the same time. Not having any outstanding recalls would be pretty cool...

My front lamp has melted the lens but I have changed the whole lights for aftermarket.

Not sure how my frame looks as I get rustproof every year. I have drilled holes for the rock sliders and have notches for the tire clearance so I,'m not sure they would take me for a recall on the frame.

I saw that! I wonder when the solution will be - I would love to get two birds stoned at once!

How does one determine if their frame qualifies? Do I just call up a local dealer and ask them to perform an inspection for the frame rust recall? I'd love to have this done if my frame qualifies!

Called Toyota Canada. They opened a case file for me and told me to just take my truck to the dealer and request the frame inspection. Has anyone dealt with Country Hills Toyota for their inspection? That's where I bought the truck and take it for oil changes, since I have free oil, filter and labour for as long as I own the truck. Last time I had it in for service, I asked if they were doing many inspections. Told me they were, and had got so good a spraying the frames that they were getting trucks in and out with about a 4 hour turn time. Kind of left me with the impression that they weren't to keen on doing replacements, and probably did a half assed job with the undercoat.

I bought a 2015 from Southpoint Toyota. An undercoat was part of the deal. When I went in for delivery I looked underneath and they sprayed the underbody only and not the frame. When I asked why they would leave out the frame given that it had a recall on older models they said the new frames are revised. Told them I'm not taking the truck without a full undercoat so they sprayed it and I picked it up the next day. The tech who does the undercoat said he would have done the same thing even with a revised frame.. Duh!
