After a Tacoma lift hearing a "wu wu wu wu" noise in the front end

When driving my Tacoma I am hearing a "wu wu wu wu wu" noise that has rhythm to it. I just added a Toytec 3" lift and 33" Toyo A/T. Had the tires checked and they are not the problem. Also the lift seems to be put on correct. This noise is freaking me out and I took it to another mechanic besides the one who put it on and he told me it was just the truck getting used to the new parts. Its a very light sound but anyone who drives it can hear it if they listen good enough. The mechanic checked the CV joints and said they were not in a bind and had plenty of room. I also added a diff drop kit so they should be fine. First lifted truck I have owned so I might just be hearing things...

It seems like it maybe coming from tires if everything is okay. Check with someone who has those tires but my Duratracs made the same exact noise... It does not mean there is anything wrong it just means your new tires are making a different noise on the pavement.

Does the sound go away when you put in 4 wheel drive?

So if it goes away in 4 wheel drive its the needle bearing, or other way around (i.e., if it doesn't go away in 4 wheel drive its the needle bearing)? I have kind of a "wu wu wu" sound, but its only ever around 35 mph. If I speed up/slow down at all, it goes away. I just attribute it to odd vibrations that happen. I had it pre/post lift.

It could be the tires because of the the lift. Changed the angle of the tire, and now the tread is riding differently on the pavement then it was before the lift.

I wouldn't worry about it. Lifted trucks push all the tolerances, and there's lots of extra opportunity for minor vibrations. Yes, those will *eventually* cause premature parts failures. If you don't want any risk of anything wearing out early - take the lift off. I just replaced my CV boots at 75k miles as a direct consequence of lift angles.

Folks have done the ECGS needle bearing bushing replacement. You can pursue that if you want to. But I'd say my truck sometimes does what you're saying - and it has the ARB differential which replaces the driver side bearing completely.

And clicking your truck into and out of 4-hi at freeway speeds, trying to figure out if it is or isn't the needle bearing, can have it's own unintended consequences.

    Two cents from here:
    Don't worry. Be happy.
