And those KM2's look so good! I have the Cooper S/T (old style) they work well and are quiet, but have a narrower tread and not as "agressive" looking. Good posting on relocating the chain hoist for an improved fit. My spare is on a bumper swing-out.

Do you have pics of how low the tire hangs with the high clearance bumper you have?

The compromise being that tires in 255/85/16 often are considered mostly because they're a good dual-purpose tire (on and offroad use). Most people who use their vehicle exclusively offroad will end up trailering to their destination or even if they do drive their vehicle to their wheeling destination they're probably not going to DD it with 36" TSLs (or larger).

If I'm going to be buying a tire that's intended to be used on and offroad as a dual-purpose setup then I don't really necessarily want mud tires... Cooper nailed it with their ST Maxx tires but I'd like to see other AT geared options, not just those. I wouldn't, for example, run BFGoodrich KM2s because I know how bad they perform in the winter after running them on a TJ in 35x12.5r16 for a while. I'd just like more options in the AT tread pattern in this size.

    Gotcha.

My personal reasons for tire choice went as follows:
I chose the size 255/85/16 to get the best offroad traction possible (for where/how I OR)
and I chose the brand and model (Cooper ST Maxx) to get a compromise of on and off road wet/dry snow/ice performance.

It hangs down a bit but not much more than the shackle hangers. I needed it out of the bed for use at work....

Thanks for the picture. I'm in the same boat wanting it out of the bed. Even with the long bed it still take up too much room.

One more benefit of the 255 is that it fits under there. I think I'll put it back in the bed for the times that I really beat on the truck. I'd hate to have to access the tire from under there if there was a big rock or something in the way.

I'm going to move the spare tire elevator within the next few days. My exhaust is cut too, but I retained the last hanger. I gonna pound on it a little more and move it outta the way another inch or so.

    Super tight under there! :)

Alright, I've read 50 pages of this thread... Haven't seen what I need to know.

I'd like to run these on stock steelies. Anyone else doing this here? I checked the wheel thread and the back spacing isn't there for the steel wheels.

I'm going to install an OEM lift next weekend. 886's with a 1/4" top plate spacer up front. 7 leaf Dakars in the rear.

I'm just wondering how the stock steelies with 255/85/16's will be rubbing wise?

    +1 For hot metal shavings
+1 For really tight working space.
    +1 For 104* weather

New holes have bolts in them.

Also note that for my loss, Toyota had an older cross member design which gave me less options to move the elevator.

It did work though! Diff clears spare now. :)

    Hi guy,

I just got my 255/85r16 copper at st maxx awesome!! Spare tire location fits good and snug I did adjust the front tabs by bending up a little did not need to cut off.

The tires so far have no rub issue I still have factory mud flaps. I have ome 886 on front and dakars on rear.

Looks great! I just got in on the Rokblokz group buy. Maybe I didn't need to? Oh well, I like them anyway.

How does your truck sit? Level, nose down or up? Thank you.

My truck sits a little high in the back. I do like that! I tend to carry a bit of weight so I like the rake! I can post some better photos. Also I have and ome shim on the drivers side strut to take care of the taco lean it only about an 1/8 shim. I would be careful going any higher in the front you might find it hard to get proper alinement! You could possibly use those shims both sides to give yourself 1/2 more lift at the wheel. Hope that makes sense?
