Well gents I finally joined the club... Got this at a gunshow last month for my birthday, first gun I've ever actually bought, and so far I love it. It's a Yugoslavian M48 Mauser (Pretty much a postwar k98k variant) in fantastic condition, still had the cosmoline on it that I'm still trying to get off. Took it shooting last week and had some misfires with surplus ammo so I got home and opened the bolt up and sure enough the firing pin spring was pretty gooped up with the stuff. Anyway I've been excited ever since I got it so thought I'd share some pics!

I just recently got ahold of a Spanish civil guard Mauser! Same rifle, but straight bolt handle on mine

Finally got the R.E.P.R all sighted in, was hitting steel plates at 300 yards for a bit today.

Tried with the Mauser, but it didn't want any of that. I'm thinking it may be shot out.

That's a great looking Mauser! I haven't heard much about the Spanish ones, I'm assuming that's pre war? But yeah I went shooting with mine and at about 20 - 40 yards I barely hit anything, although I didn't take too many shots and was more focused on getting the gun to fire than hitting anything with it at the time. Now that I got all of the damn cosmolone out of the firing pin spring I'm guessing it'll be fine. I'm sure yours is the same but the lowest sight setting is for 200 meters so I was hitting way high of anything I was shooting at at that range, but still had a blast with it!

It was my first time shooting, no cosmoline issues at all, I got almost all of it out. I believe it is prewar, is great shape for its age, but yes it shoots like shit haha. I didn't hit anything at 300 yards, which was expected. Hit paper at 200 yards, but more misses than anything

I took Two coworkers shooting today. Neither of them had ever fired a gun. One of them at least is hooked for sure. He shot the plate rack until we ran out of ammo then asked how far away was the closest place to buy more ammo was.

Gave it a go at 600yds. I was pleased for my first time shooting at that distance.

Removed the Hogue stocks and replaced with a Mesa (awesome) and Magpul (pretty good, real bonus was ease of adding a light) and a TLR-1. I dig it.
