What a bummer. I guess I could add another bracket to the mix but it's just going to pollute the setup more. Looks like I'll just have to elmers glue everything back together.

See I like that set up too, I just don't how well I could drill in to my bumper. Do you have a write up for how you did it? And is your plug aftermarket? If so, what brand?

I bought the plug at O'riely. A hole saw is all you need. Took about 45 minutes and the bumper never came off the truck. Just measure the plug diameter, and get a hole saw for it. It is super easy to do.

Have have to go that route. It's either that or keep trying to find plug to fit the stock bracket. I'm not sure why Toyota didn't put it there in the first place. Smart people do stupid things.

This is the best way to do it. Easy access, and up off the bottom of the truck. I tow quite a bit so I like having the plug where I can get to it.

    Hah

My plan when I get to relocating is to completely remove the smaller thin bracket and relocate the 7 pin hidden behind bumper. For the bracket that originally held the - pin plug I want to make a piece to hold a 4 pin there instead tucked up nice and high in befween the 2 holes.

Then go to lowes or home depot and get some metal, make L brackets and mount it hidden up behind the bumper

bLUEWWATERS, HAVE YOU DONE THIS YOURSELF? DO THE WIRES TO THE TRUCK JUST PLUG INTO THE BACK OF THE CONNECTOR? OR DO YOU NEED TO COMPLETELY REWIRE THE NEW CONNECTOR?

Yes I have, you just cut the end of the wires, then strip the ends and put them in the proper spot. It is a screw on connecter. You just have to look up a wiring diagram to put the right wires were they go.

I just bent my bracket back down for now because I am saving up for a high clearance rear bumper. Ive broke mine off twice wheeling Lol. You can buy the bracket the guy makes above or make your own. There is a write up I will try and find. Its not hard at all. If you need me to pull the plug apart to see how it connects I can.

Also for now it just sits in the bracket (since its c shaped) I didn't bolt it to the bracket, but I use it all the time no problems. If I don't get my high clearance soon I will relocate it. Let me find that write up.

For the cost of 2 little bolts, a person can just remove 1 license plate light, drill 2 holes, and mount the plug. That leaves a light that still lights up the plate just fine. There is no law that says you have to have 2 license plate lights as long as it is lit up, no problem. Having it point straight down with a trailer plugged in doesn't work worth the crap and is just asking to damage both the truck and trailer plugs.
If it gets ripped off, just by a replacement end for like $10 and cut the wires, not rocket science.
