It shouldn't be that big of a deal. It's not like they're pumping oil into the GOM.

I wonder how long the tuning companies knew about the cheater software. Not implying that they should have alerted anyone, that would be just plain dumb for their business, but I would venture to guess that they knew about it from the get go.

I wonder how many of the "tuned" TDis actually still pass emission testing?

They likely did not meet emissions while the tune program was running. I am just going off of when I had my GTI, but I think the tunes for the TDIs can be 'turned off' (and back on) by the owner at any time.

Turning it on and off on my F250 PowerStroke was an option.

The class-action lawsuit flyers are pouring into my mailbox now, but only for our '14 Beetle. Nothing for our '12 Golf. Not that I would join one anyways- I would rather get a free set of floor mats from VW for my troubles than $200 after the lawyers take their cut. Bottom feeders.

How are they a bottom feeder? That's 200$ you didn't have before and lawyers, just as yourself (I'm guessing) are not going to work for free.

Because 30-40% fees in a class action case are excessive in my opinion. The firms doing these will not have to work 1000 times harder for a 1000 people in a class as opposed to only 1-10 people. That, and starting a class action before any fix has even been developed. If the fix turns out to cause me some measurable loss, then maybe some legal action might be in order. Right now, there is no actual value loss on my cars.

Why wait to gather up information? The early bird gets the worm.

Starting the lawsuit now makes vw say "we better dot our i's and cross our t's with the fix"

A fixed percent lawsuit is much better than per hour.

And it's not just vehicle owners who will be included, it will be stockholders as well I'm guessing.

Is that because you will continue to own it & not lose because you're not selling it/them or because the actual cash value hasn't changed? As a TDi fan and former owner (maybe future too) I'm wondering.

It just seems with the wuestion out there that the government can decided to impose fines on individuals as well as VW corp (up to what ~$3,700 per individual) it may have a negative effect....let alone performance being lost on the "fix" of both MPG & actual driving.
