I'm new here to the forum I have a 14 Tacoma Sport Crew cab Manual. I'm planning an overland trip from Central PA to Northern Labrador, Canada in late December. See my route below. I've been trolling around here and the overland expidition portal for the last couple weeks. and learned a lot.

The extent of my off roading is logging roads, and old abandoned forestry roads here in PA. I'd like the capability to do moderate offroading, but am not expecting to do a ton more than what I have done previously. I'm looking to put a 3inch lift on to accomodate some larger tires, preferably KO2's. The main purpose is for utility, but looks are certainly a plus. The reason I'm looking at KO2s is because I need something that is able to handle snow on gravel roads fairly well, and they seem to do the job. The translabrador highway runs for 500+ miles on only gravel with significant washboard sections, and can get fairly hazardous in the winter. I'll bring chains, shovel, vehicle recovery plates, come-along.

    My main question now is:
Will BFG KO2S that are 34x10.5x17 fit on my truck with a 3 inch ome lift without cutting and trimming? I currently have 265x65x17 on the stock wheels. I'm thinking that getting a tall skinny wheel will help eliminate some of the issues with rubbing while turning. I'm okay with a slight rub at full-lock since most of the time I won't be doing super-technical off-roading that requires full lock turns. Any help or advice would be great. Thanks!

Use the search function to look for the biggest size stock tires you can use on your truck, but I will tell you that 33's usually rub a bit on most people's rigs.

Yeah, it should be pretty cool. It's about as far north as you can go in Eastern Canada.

Thanks! I found a post on this. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/255-85-r16-owners-experience.155849/ The tire dimensions are essentially the same if you read through the 156+ pages of posts, haha. It basically looks like it depends, but most of the time it will work. the KO2s aren't true 34" tires either.

With a full 3" lift, which is what I'm planning on getting.

From experience I've seen swapping coils and getting the spacer is the way to go rather than just a huge puck up front, takes some bounce out off-road and prevents tires from slammed the plastic or body.

Okay, so you're saying an OME kit with the spacers and coils is a good way to go? This is what I was looking at:

Yea that's a kick ass kit, you will be more than happy with it. BUT remember that I had said with a full 3in lift most guys still see rubbing with 33's.
Heck my buddy this week has a 3in lift on his work truck, a 2014 sierra and put 34's on it and it rubs now. So you'll need to be looking more into like 5 or 6in lift for 34's on a tacoma. Look through the threads and Google some builds with 34's to make sure you don't end up rubbing the crap out of your truck or tires

Don't get a 5 or 6 in lift just do the cab mount chop, and trim some of the plastic, its not too hateful. Read up on anything over 3" not ideal for these trucks.

It also might seem like you won't rub at first while parked on level ground, but as soon as you cycle that suspension when turning and going over a curb or into a parking lot, you'll rip your front mud flap off immediately.

Agreed. I'm not putting anything >3" on. I was just trying to find the happy medium where I wouldn't have to cut the truck. But it looks like that might not work even with skinny 33s.

Tire rack shows specs which show true tire size for that tire, just look under your tires specs. But yea like the guys said, on the pavement and even the occasional curb bump you may not notice rubbing even with a 33 but go off road and try to make a sharp turn and you'll be rubbing like crazy. My friends got a 4in lift that does well with 33's off road. Look into that maybe

I'll give that a shot, thanks. Its a shame that you can't do 34s and a three inch lift without cutting. But not much I can do about that.

I still have 265 75 16's on my truck with a 3in lift, I hated the look of it the first month but now it's grown on me, still doesn't look right but I don't roll my eyes when I see it lol. I have a hurt back from an accident so I won't be off road any time soon. I'll just save my money up and maybe after Christmas my back won't be hurt.

    @EMTacoma I have the 34" KO2's its an excellent tire about 1" taller than a 285".
I'm also running Old Man Emu 886 coils with Icon UCA.
My Caster is set as follows Left 2.1* and Right 2.3* this isn't the best, but the tech was a bit of dick and didn't want to dial more Caster.

With that said, at FULL Stuff and the wheel slightly clocked I rub on the lower fender flare.
It's very little so I think with better Caster numbers I wouldn't rub..

I'm currently selling my 34" KO2's on FJ Steel wheels if your interested.
