    Here's my Dilemma:

According to "Schedule Maintenance Guide" from Toyota it says, "Lifetime Guarantee on muffler, tail pipe, exhaust pipe and labor". I called the dealerships in my area in Vermont and both said, " They discontinued the guarantee July 31st, 2013". I checked Toyotas website and it says as long as your vehicle was purchased at a toyota dealership between January 1st 1990 through July 31st 2013. They will honor the guarantee( purchased my 2001 taco in 2005 from a dealership)....My question, Has anyone else ran into this predicament when dealing with dealerships? I'm going to call Toyota Headquarters on my next break from work but i have feeling they're going to tell me the same thing. I just don't understand how it's legal to just "discontinue a LIFEtime guarantee".

So I'm hoping to hear a success story from toyota sticking to their word. Let me know. I won't hold my breath...

Wouldn't they have to provide you or people who had that service before they just discontinue it?

I would do it myself BUT the Lifetime guarantee INCLUDES parts and labor for FREE. It's the principle, that's why I'm doing it.

    from the website FAQs:
Which parts does Toyota cover under the Lifetime Guarantee?
The Lifetime Guarantee covers Genuine Toyota mufflers, shock absorbers, struts and strut cartridges/inserts originally installed at a Toyota dealership between January 1, 1990 through July 31, 2013.

The Lifetime Guarantee also covers Genuine Toyota exhaust pipes originally installedat a Toyota dealership between December 28, 1991 through July 31, 2013.

If you pay 100 percent of the parts and labor expense for the installation of a part covered by Lifetime Guarantee, and under normal driving conditions the part fails, bring your vehicle back to an authorized Toyota dealership and the lifetime part will be replaced at no charge. The Lifetime Guarantee remains in force as long as you own the vehicle. The only requirement for this lifetime part replacement is a copy of the original service repair order as proof of purchase.

For additional details, please contact your local Toyota dealership.

What Is Not Covered Under This Guarantee:

    • Repairs and adjustments required as a result of misuse (i.e. racing, overloading), negligence, modification, alteration, tampering, disconnection, improper adjustments or repairs, accidents and use of add-on parts/materials.
    • Parts installed on a non-Toyota vehicle.
NOTE: Valid only in the continental United States and Alaska.

So you have the original invoice from when the dealer installed your exhaust??

Does it also include new CARB compliant cats as well

As much warranty work as Toyota is doing it won`t be long till the base Tacoma is @ $70,000.00

Then maybe they will just cease operations in the USA.

From what I'm reading above, the Guarantee applies to:

    1) Vehicles bought from a dealer 1/1/90 - 12/31/13
    2) Vehicles which later had the muffler replaced at a dealer. Note the language: "originally installed at a Toyota dealership" -- NOT during manufacture.

I guess you satisfied the first requirement, even though purchased used, when did you have the dealer put a replacement muffler on?

I agree, the way it reads to "me" as well is:
this warranty ONLY applies to Toyota parts you get installed on your Toyota and NOT what comes on the truck when you bought it.
so if you paid Toyota to replace any of that stuff then and only then, do you get a lifetime warranty on those parts.

I remember seeing the signs When picking up parts .

One could buy quite a few exhaust systems with what it cost for the parts and the labor.

I am really bad at keeping receipts for things like this myself
