Thought about that last year and even shopped around but came to the conclusion that a trailer parked in my driveway when not in use would be a perpetual PITA all winter (snow removal).

I'm in the same predicament with choosing either a Tacoma or 4Runner.

I've had my eyes on getting a Tacoma for a few years now, but with being newly married and the thought of children soon in our lives, I have somewhat shifted outlooks on the Tacoma. I have an older Explorer XLT so I'm used to driving a bigger SUV. The wife and I go camping once or twice a year, so that's not an issue. My only concern would be whether or not the 4Runner could tow a bass boat as easily as a Tacoma. Stats online suggest their towing capabilities are roughly the same, so I guess I pretty much answered my own questions.

I've seen some people haul a lot of stuff in an SUV with the rear seats folded down flat. The only divider is if you need to haul ATV's or dirtbikes or something.

To me it all came down to a manual transmission. Not offered in a 4runner....

If transmission doesn't matter, then I would strongly consider the 4runner. Drive both EXTENSIVELY. Nit pick them both, see which you like better.

I have both. Two totally different vehicles. Different motor / transmission combos, etc. Both have their place and uses. It's hard for me to say which is best. The new Tacoma towed my m416 and tent just fine this weekend everywhere we wanted to go. I think both would pull the boat just fine

    not quite on towing amounts.

4runner is about 4700 vs Tacoma 6500 if I remember correctly.
