The 2x4 setup looks like it works just fine! I wouldnt change it up lol

i can barely get the truck with rtt in and out. My garage opening is arched. So i have to sort of scoot the truck to the middle to fit out. Which sucks cause the rtt had to go on the side of the garage (garage door opener and attic access were in the way)

Not worth it when i can still fit going out via centering the truck. Airing down wouldnt help anyways as id need to drop probably 4-6" to fit going straight out thanks to the arch on the garage on the one

Bumping a thread for those running bed bars and Prinsu racks:

This idea came about when a member posted about protectors for his bed bars to keep the RTT rails from scratching up his bed bars:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/kydex-bed-bar-protectors.393501/

I have spoken with his manufacturer and he can make these for Prinsu roof rack cross bars. If you are interested please quote the list below and send me a PM and I will add you to my list. We need at least 5 of each type to get them for $5/piece otherwise they will be $10/piece

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/index.php?posts/10876108/

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Picked up a used Tepui Kukenam last week. I have it mounted to a Leer 100R using Thule load bars with artificial rain gutter mounts.

The night I picked it up:

I'll admit, I had my doubts about the strength of the setup when I first mounted it. However, I wheeled all last weekend, and took some bumps that would've punched OEM bumpstops pretty near through the frame (I run Firestone RideRites in place of bumpstops). The tent/load bars remained rock solid throughout the trip. I no longer have any doubts about the sturdiness of the setup, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it anyone.

My only complaint is the tent it pretty high up and inaccessible compared to being mounted on a rack or bed bars. I have to stand on the rear tires, tailgate, and rear floorboards with the door open to setup/store the tent. But, I'm only 5'6", and my truck is lifted 2", which doesn't help matters. It would likely be easier for someone taller. Once you get used to the process, it really isn't bad, and the benefits of the added storage of the cap make the compared difficulty worth it in my opinion.

I have the same issue now that my tent is on the roof and not on the bed... I have a 2 step ladder that I bring with me. Doesn't take up much room and its easier and safer to haul it around than to try to work with the tent and by stepping in the door frames and grabbing onto the oh shit handles for balance. I used to just use the sliders on my truck as a step when I needed to mess with that end of the tent....more reason to get sliders!
Something like this is what I have. I can almost set up the tent without it but getting the cover back on is a bitch and i need the ladder for that, no other way to reach the top of the tent!

Its not a bad design...unless you have an 8ft+ tall vehicle for my garage at least! Luckily its about the only thing i dislike on the garage. Thankfully the builder went with a true sized 2.5 car garage.

I climb all over the back of my truck like a jungle gym when I'm setting/closing the tent. lol. And due to my awning I have to slide it over to the pass. side more. Today I just slid it as far forward as I could as I plan to mount my traction ladders at the back:

What made you decide to mount it with the ladder in the rear as opposed to the side? I have mine on the side for easier access to the tailgate and bed but I like the little covered area over your tailgate... Hmmm

So I'll be moving soon and I need some contractor advice. For some reason it seems most building codes make garages 6" too short to fit my truck in. I'll blame building contractors not my mid travel and roof rack :dunno:

How much of a project is it gonna be to raise a garage door entry by a foot? I'll need to make up a winch pulley lift to store my rtt up in the rafters but without altering the entire garage entry I can't get in...

Also depends on the interior ceiling height. If its an 8ft ceiling im not sure there is any way to make it bigger and retain the garage opener since that takes a foot of ceiling space above the garage door height

It all depends on how you want it done. Looks like you're in socal, so the cheapest would be to swing by homedepot tomorrow morning, grab you a couple of workers, and tell them what you want to do. The RIGHT way depends on a few things. Does your garage have exposed studs, or is it all drywalled in. What is the exterior made out of, stucco, siding, etc. They need to strip that wall down to the studs, raise the header, put new studs in to support the header at it's new height, reattach and fix the exterior, if it's a roll up door and the manufacturer has the option you can add another section so it covers the now taller opening, in addition to raising the tracks, otherwise you'll need a new door, and will more than likely lose the garage door opener. So done correctly, by a licensed contractor is going to run a few grand.

Not to mention California has some specific requirements for lateral restraint pertaining to large openings like garage doors for seismic loads
