    2004 Tacoma SR5 4x4 double cab, auto tranny - the problem occurs after braking to a complete stop. When you remove your foot from the brake, a very solid 'thud' occurs, and it feels as if someone has bumped you from the rear.

    Most first-gen Tacomas with the automatic seem to do that, including mine. Consensus is, that its an axle wrap issue. Stiffer springs might help, or some sort of cheesy track-bar.

    I can mostly eliminate it, when just about to come to a complete stop, by momentarily taking my foot off the brake. Experiment with that. My wife thinks my truck is broken !!

    Yep. The dreaded Axel-Wrap. Adding a leaf just postpones the inevitable. Now is a good time to put in the

    suspension if you have the funds.

    definitely axle wrap. new leafs on mine, no issues anymore. never did use the leaf clamps I bought...oh well
