How involved is it getting to my gear shift linkage?

My Tacoma will not go into gear after the shifter was moved around too violently. The stick will go side to side like it's in neutral, but it won't go up or down into any of the gears. It also won't push over to the right far enough as if to go into 5th or 6th. I pulled the top apart and got down to where the shift stick meets the rod that goes into the transmission assembly. It seems that the transmission will have to be dropped?? The truck seems to be engaged to some degree as when I push it, there is a hump that's difficult to get past every couple feet. And if I start it and let off the clutch a little, it start to move. If someone could give me insight as to the severity of what I may be encountering. Thank you in advance for any opinions/advice/knowledge shared. I've been broken down and sleeping in my truck for 4 days.

 

Take the stick shift out of the transmission from the top . This will get you in to the shift mechanism .

Where are you broken down ?

Thank you for taking time out of your day to respond. Here is a pic of what's underneath the plate. How can anything be accessed, adjusted, or even looked at beyond here?

 

if you remove the main shifter bolt and the shifter insert ,we should be able to see what gear your transmission is stuck in .
from there you can pry the shift rail back into the neutral position. this will work providing all is good inside the transmission
