This thread is still the first I've heard of a potential failure. I never said a tacoma tranny hasn't ever failed.

naw, rear diff woulda gone first.... your trans went likely due to mal maintence / low trans fluid / improper use of the trans (constant hunting for gears rather than putting it in 4th on hills etc)

Your 1000% wrong... I have several broncos that push 600+ horsepower and it's always the tranny that goes first. The rear end on tacomas is strong but the heavy 35's put extra strain on the clutches which eventually go out and blow everything apart.

Yes i did. The guy that does all my tranny rebuilds said that he has seen several tacomas blow their trannys apart. It's a common occurrence when you run tires that weigh 90 pounds each

They said the size and weight of the tires, plus the stress put on it from hauling 800 pounds of equipment 7 days a week at 200 miles a day.

The atf was flushed and replaced at 65k miles at my local dealer. Shaun at Gar's transmission said that this is the 4th 2nd gen he has received this week with a blown tranny.... And the new tranny will have larger bearings, a higher oil pressure, tranny cooler and some other thing (i will try to get the specifics tomorrow)

Yes they did. He did say that the fluid smelt burnt... I have always used valvoline atf in my 24v and never had an issue with it if that helps

    Glad I have a 5.7 that can handle 35" without a hiccup.

Some guys are pushing 40"

Maybe it's time to cram a 5.7 in a taco...
