You are now the fifth person on here who realizes that dealers are not paying the 'invoice' price that is listed on all of the documents

You aren't the sixth person because I alreay counted you a couple months ago. Dealers really have a strangle hold on the information that is passed around. "Certainly, the dealer wouldn't lie to me!"

Invoice plus doc fees? Yes there is holdback and other stuff. But here the dealers do get charged for TDA and even the half gallon of gas the truck comes with. They don't lose money at invoice. Just don't make as much on it as they would like. Most dealerships pay some amount of TDA. It varies by dealer not by region. You don't ever see it until you see the full breakout sheet. This isn't supposed to be given to the customer. But there's about 1200 in holdback and reserve. But 700 in TDA and gasoline. So at invoice they only make about 500. Invoice plus TDA they can make that 1200. Which is why dealers try to move more units so they get that holdback image.jpg

Let me clarify my point about invoice. MSRP for the truck I want is $34,695. Invoice is $32,105. I can guarantee you no dealer in the USA is going to sell it at $31,605 plus tax, title and license.

If a dealer is reading this and wants to do that deal, feel free to PM me. :D

I'm gonna call bullshit. Just like the guy who said he got his from koons below invoice. Below invoice, not adding in TDA they are breaking even pretty much even with holdback

I was talking to a dealer about them being greedy and basically telling the people using buying services that were from a select affiliation that they would only deal 1000 under msrp. Which is still 2000 over invoice and gives 3000 profit. When I said that it was a significant profit he tried to play it off like they were making pennies not thousands on the deal. Until I told him everything I knew and he had nothing left to say. Bottom line is some dealers would rather lose 5 deals to make a few thousand on one where others will take that lower profit and sell more to come out on top

Why are you all fretting over a few hundred bucks here and there when you aren't even comparing apples to apples?

For example...you live in San Francisco, your COL and average salary is more than double that of the majority of the U.S. Just because you pay full MSRP there doesn't mean you got a worse deal than someone paying invoice in another state. Fact is you probably got a significantly better deal than the other dude simply based on how much that car costs relative to other life expenses.

Obviously you are going to be paying different prices in different areas of the country. Unless you are comparing prices from dealers within a few hundred miles of each other (and even that is incredibly....generous), then this is one big useless exercise.

If you paid XYZ for your truck, obviously you felt that it was worth XYZ to you, so you got a good deal. Be happy and enjoy your new rig.

Not necessarily. If everything is more expensive where you live then indeed you are not getting a better deal. Because everything costs more and the salaries rarely justify the increased costs. For instance my girlfriend is a doctor, she was offered 55k fresh out of college to start in NC. She can buy a brand new house in NC for 125k. That same house in MD would cost 300k plus depending on the area. In MD she would only make 65k to start. Then add in electric, gas, groceries. Etc, etc. at the end of the day you are just getting raped from all sides. But the truth is for most people the wage difference between states is minimal except for very specific trades. There's lots of people making the national average even where everything is inflated. They just have a lesser quality of life compared to if they moved. So now the dealers want a higher profit because some of the people can afford to pay it in that area. And it just goes round and round and round

I think the cost of living makes up for the price of the truck being the same. We live in Glendale, CA and work in South Pasadena, CA. We make a lot more money as a couple than couples do elsewhere, but our expenses are higher than most others, as well.

That's what I was trying to explain. Typically unless you're way on the upper limits of society, cost of living more than makes up for the cost of other things, like vehicles, being the same across the country

Here's a quote I got from Autonation in Ft. Meyers, FL. When I submitted the request from the autonation site, I thought it was a Sport, not the Offroad. Pretty hard to recall a request once it is in flight. If someone is in Florida and is looking for this type of Tacoma, they seem eager to discount and deal. This is the Silver offroad with the Tech and Tow package.

Bought a 2016 2WD TRD Sport in Inferno on Friday from Freeman Toyota in Hurst, TX. They had to do a dealer trade to get the one I wanted and that dealer (Cowboy Toyota in Garland, TX) outsources the window tinting so I ended-up paying a bit extra for that. MSRP was $33,747 and paid $33 even for it.

Extras - V6 towing package, connectivity kit, premium mats, vehicle protection premium package, and predator tube steps.
