    Bilstein 5100's w/ Eibach coil overs in front (set at 3" of lift). Front diff drop kit. Extended Bilstein 5100's in the rear. Deaver 2" AAL in rear w/ axle shims. 285 x 75 r 16 Goodyear Duratracks. Wheelers steelies type B, AFE cold air intake. Sway bar delete. All Pro Apex front bumper (rattle canned Rustoleum primer + flat black). Plasti-dipped emblems. Mud flaps removed.
    Not sure of the mileage but I used NGK iridium, pricey but they seem to work really well.

    no need or want for high priced iridium in the v6 (non boosted).

    First, @tractng the link you provided is a dealer scheduled maintenance which differs from Toyota Corporation's scheduled maintenance.

    This is the link to Toyota's Official list of scheduled maintenance. (30k miles is when Toyota recommends first spark plug change)

    These are the plugs you want. They are the OEM plugs. (Toyota Tacomas come stock with 3 Denso and 3 NGK. Replace with the plugs in the link provided)

    I am sure this has been answered before, but what is the rationale for 2 different brands of spark plugs and which brand goes in which cylinders? My truck only has 7700 miles so not due yet.

    It was that way on my 2000 and 2008, my theory has always been that they must make each head in a different factory, but honestly no real idea why.

    You do not have to use two different brands. Either NGK OR Denso. I prefer NGK, but that is just me.

    Fletch aka has a plausible answer but still doesn't explain why maybe one shift or day of the week could not use one brand and rotate brands every day or shift. Having two different brands in each V6 engine seems dumb.

    Jimmy I have had great service from NGK plugs in Mercury outboards and small engines also Yamaha outboards. Denso plugs are probably just fine also.

    When it is time to replace mine I will use either NGK or Denso but only one brand at a time unless someone offers a convincing reason to do otherwise.

    I used NGK on mine. Almost due again. It's a quick, easy job.

    Regarding gap, I believe iridium or platinum plugs come pregapped. Others do not. Out of the box, my NGKs were wildly varied so I corrected them all to spec.

    Copper plugs check and gap as needed to manual specs.

    Irridium plugs come pre-gapped and I check them only. If it is off out of spec I take them back for replacement. ( I have never had one out of spec )

    Thanks for the great info. Can you increase the plug replacement interval if platinum or iridium plugs are used instead of copper? Or is that not recommended?

    there is no rationale other than some ancient agreement that: since toyota owns denso (on paper not so much anymore but in reality yes they do) they need
    to spec some NGK parts to meet some type of old yakuza/handshake deal from way beyond all our times

    Originally, NGK supplied most of its products to Japanese automakers

    so toyota stuffs (most if not all) it's V engines with 1/2 of denso, and 1/2 the V with NGK, so that NGK gets some sales revenue


    toyota dealers stock denso of course. you can use any mix of owners manual specified NGK or denso you want.

    some will state 'oh denso/ngk you need to keep it that way because...that is wasted spark...electronic jibbajabba...coils need it...no it's not... it is purely 'corporate wang'

    Yes, if you use another brand of spark plugs, they should tell you on the box/container when to replace. If you don't use the Denso/NGK from the dealer, then I would research popular brands that offer a better/similar quality. Most aftermarket plugs need to be changed at either 30,000 or 60,000. I wouldn't wait till 100,000 to change spark plugs because they are so cheap to replace.
