After purchasing my new 15 access cab, I discovered (in my driveway) that it has a plain Jane rear view mirror (no homelink). I'll spare you all my rant of disbelief. I've found some threads on here discussing the upgrade options, and the possibility that a harness might already be hidden above the headliner. But, I'm having some trouble accessing it to ensure that it's there before I order a mirror.

I've removed the single screw from the sunglasses holder, but the console still seems to be VERY well connected to the headliner. What's the trick to gettin in there to investigate without breaking tabs off of the console? Is it attached differently for the '15 than previous years? Thanks.

It's very simple... you have one screw inside the sunglasses holder, then the entire console pops off from the roof. In the pic I attached, note the metal clips on the backside of the console above the lights. All you need to do is pry gently from the back with a plastic panel puller or some sort of large, soft bladed object (a screwdriver will mar your console).

Also note the front of the opening next to the windshield header - there is the wiring harness you are looking for. It's taped to your roof. You'll need to remove the plastic plug on the end in order to make it functional.

If you get a mirror from Bob the mirror guy on this forum, it's a good price and is plug and play. Note that in 2015 you don't have an external temperature sensor pre-wired, you'll have to add one if you are interested in his compass/temperature/Homelink mirror. Here's mine after I installed it:

It's a very easy and worthwhile update. Cheers, and good luck! :)

Picked up my 2015 Dcab Sport on Saturday and I hate the fact that Toyota skimped on the cheap mirror.
A Bob's Mirror comp/temp/homelink is definitely in my future.

The console has "claw" like prongs at the rear so if you pull from the back side you can tear your headliner. Here's a youtube video of a guy pulling it out. My '15 has 2 sunglass holders instead of the compass/temp gauge this guy has but it comes out the same way. I ran my aftermarket hands free mic into the factory location yesterday and used this video.

As Diverdale said above do not try to pull down from the rear, I made that mistake, you just need to pull down from the front and it will come down.

Thanks guys! When you say "front", you're referring to the windshield end of the console, correct?

Fingers crossed that what I need is up there. Saw somewhere that some mid-year '15s don't have the harness....or they do, but they're missing the third (always hot) wire.

Yes the front or sides near the windshield. My 2015 was produced in June so it was near the end of production and the harness was up there, I think you more likely have it up there too.

Harness was there and the new mirror has claimed its spot! Aside from a slight coronary event while popping the console out of a two-day-old truck, it was an easy upgrade. Didn't do the temp feature since I really didn't want to mess with running the extra wire, but love the Homelink and autodimming with compass. Bob's Mirrors to the rescue. Looks like it should've looked from the factory. Thanks!

Looks good, you should have added the outside temp too, its not too bad running the wires.

X2 - looks great but you are missing the temperature. Running the wires was not a hard job at all.
