i ran those kappa speakers in the 6.5 and 5.25 component size in 2 different vehicles. both off a kenwood amp, so they were getting about 90w. amazing sound.

Had them not big in the mid bass area. Great highs though, there a lot of other options out there that won't break the bank. What is your goal and budget?

I have the same gen kappa as 6.5" flavor in the rear. When I listen to them in the rear seats they sound great, when powered from a good amp.

I got that dreaded bass bottoming (thwarting) sound when I was powering them from the Alpine's built in IC amp. At a minimum, the Kappas need at least a power brick amp in order to have sustained bass.

I agree that they should have more mid bass, even when powered from from a good amp. Not sure why they are like this. Also, the +3 dB adjustment is a gimmick...it makes the highs sound somewhat louder (not necessarily by a factor of 2), but reduces the bass in doing so.

A Con, is that I noticed the cone material is very very very similar to a set of JBL GTO (midlevel model) coaxial speakers I purchased back in 1998. JBL, Infinity and Harmon Kardon are all sister brands. These were $100 back then..and they were only average sounding when powered. I surmise that the Kappa series are getting cheapened as each generation is released. I'm not a fan of the plastic baskets, advertised as composite, being used now either. The only reason I went with kappas was to somewhat match the old school green kappa components I'm still using in the front.

If these are going into the front doors, I highly recommend going with a set of components for more detailed separation, within your budget. Old infinity was really good...but I think there are better options now.
