Heading to Alaska from Texas. In Wyoming my engine light came on. Pulled into a small town and mechanic diagnosed Catalytic efficiency code. He cleared it and it came back on in Montana. Pulled into Helena and only mechanic open on Saturday diagnosed it as same code and said my 1st bank sensor was bad. He had a Bosch sensor and put it in. We'll I'm here in the Yukon and it went off again. I don't have a choice but wait until I get to Fairbanks. I need a good mechanic I can trust. Any ideas?

I've only had cars worked on at dealers here. Can't speak for independent mechanics, but the Toyota dealer was great to work with, the Chevy dealer was about as bad as it could get. Both cases were warranty work and pretty big time jobs.

Can't comment on the mechanic as i don't live there, but it sounds like you need to hit an exhaust shop. looks like either that cat has gone bad... the question would be why it did? or you have developed a small air leak just before the O2 sensor that is in place after the cat.

HQ Automotive in North Pole is the best Fairbanks has to offer.
