You're reading my mail and why I went with the 2015 last fall as discussion was on about the 2016. Now, if it were my only vehicle and was to be used for lots of long trips...I didn't tow as much etc., waiting and buying a similar model for $5000 more might have been worth it. But the discounts around here were crazy and getting an OR for that much less then a 2016 was worth it to me. The 4 Runner version of the 4.0L with direct injection ?.?.
One can only guess how much more satisfying it would be.

I think everyone expected more grunt from a newer motor
Being able to tool around all day in the 4.0 and seldom jump above the 2000 rpm was one of the reasons this motor was so reliable....but, it was course and noisy and the 3.5 is more in line with listening to xlassical music in quiet then actually doing work with ease.

The PRO is a sweet sweet up, with full factory warranty. Great choice.
The 2016 has definitely grown on me since all the pics are released and hearing about the new truck from owners, but I"m still glad to have the previous generation. Have to wait and see how I feel when a 2016+ pull up along side me, more so if it has a small lift and upgraded wheels. But I'm pretty happy with the overall look of the 2nd gen. I'm looking forward to paying it off and doing some minor updates to give it that TRD Pro stance and be happy for a long time to come. Go team 2nd gen! :p

I'm someone who bought a 2015 Tacoma in October 2015 (just over a week ago) while the 2016s were staring me in the face. For me it came down to the 4.0 engine.. And nothing else.

Thank you! And btw I bought it without first seeing it or ever driving any Tacoma before. I went in and asked for a MGM TRD sport with such and such upgrades. Waited a week for the build. Then drove it home. My only test drive was 2 weeks of browsing on this forum! Big thank you to all the TW community :)

The engine is #1, but the final nail was the cheese grater grill of the 2016.

I don't like that 2016 grille either...I had local dealer call me up at 7 PM on April 30th. Seems they needed ONE sale to make their numbers for the quarter and get big bonus munny from Toyota. Without me they would have forfeited it.

They sold me a new 2015 DOUBLE CAB
PreRunner 4x2 with the 2.7 automatic,
fog lights, and keyless for $18,600.00 plus TTL!!
    $5000.00 UNDER Cost. (Sticker: $25,685.00)

    tacodoublef.jpg tacodouble.jpg

I also taked him into robbing a set of factory floor mats out of another one, and me bringing in a receiver hitch and they installed it FREE. Just me and the wife, basically just a good "get around" vehicle. All I'll pull is a one motorcycle trailer and it'll handle that no problema. The little 2.7 is fine in our situation and a hell of a motor that will run and run.

I liked the basic BLACK flares and grille which stand out and look good to me
Damn radio is smart and has a USB I can load 2000 tunes on a thumb drive who needs XM radio?
Hell, this is all the truck we need and I stole it. Real happy.

I have a 2015 SCLB work truck. Just bought a 16 TRD Sport DCLB. At the end of the day, it all totally depends on your needs/wants. I agree with most of the critiques of the new engine. But, for me, that was not a deal breaker since my main reason for the upgrade was the creature comforts for wife and kids (ok, and me too). The interior is a huge upgrade and I will be using this for road trips. The ride is more quiet and comfortable than the 15. The new tech is solid too. Overall, an upgrade in interior and exterior appearance in my opinion.

Would I like to have a 5.7 V8 in this? Absolutely!

A double cab with a 2.7 and a 4 speed auto. It's a nice truck for just getting around. Congrats. For that price it is a steal.

Btw, how do you get all 2000 tunes on a thumb drive to list and make available all 2000 on the sound unit. Mine (2015 OR) is limited to playing only a couple hundred. If I plug in the IPod and use it's player, all will play. It seems the memory on mine is shorter....for $10k more.

But, like you, I went for the 2015 for one reason only...the price. The 2016 is better in every way but I am not getting a 2016 OR for $28k. The 2015 were all deal-able. I keep my trucks for about 10 years so I guess at some point I will be buying another 10 year old model of a gen 3.

technology was a big factor in not getting a 15'. When I found out the '15 didn't have enough technology to give me MPG, that was the last straw. 15's on down are technology dinosaurs. in this tech crazed world you got to have gizmos.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Well the 2016 Tacoma is a step up in tech but it is certainly no trend setter or leader. Toyota just tossed enough on to keep it okay.

We went to the moon on old tech. . Now we don't even have a manned space program.

Tech is cool but the 3.5 can not beat a supercharged 4.0 for drive ability, mpg sure. Longevity who knows..

I love my 2015! I have looked at a few 2016s now. The interior is nice, the radios still suck. Toyota doesn't know what a good sounding radio is. And the grill is still ugly. Otherwise the truck looks great.

You don't. Thumb drive holds em all and you play off it what you want. Radio won't list all 2000 at once

Bluetooth and pandora or youtube. That fixes all storage problems for music.

I would love to see the 4.7 in a Tacoma.

I agree about the interior options on the 2016. Wireless charger and heated mirrors would have been great in my 2015. Don't care for the rest..

You're getting a great truck whether you go 1st, 2nd or 3rd gen. Fact of the matter is that we are all here cause we have a common bond and that's that we love Tacomas. Enjoy your truck and know that they're all gems.

I saw that the tundra pro has quicksand as a color option now. That is a nice looking truck!
