Poppy seed muffins from Costco, top notch item from the early days. The peeled flash frozen large size prawns in a 15lb bag,,when they have that come thru the stores. Delicious little sea bugs. Do my own beer batter prawns and smoked Ribeye plate.

Yup, tuck in a red and white checkerboard napkin and head for the sample tables. They are there to be consumed. You have to check weather you can stand consuming the whole big bag or box of them. Some of that stuff is good right out of the box,,but then sucks soon afterwards and the rest end in the trash.

Had some Forest Grouse chili recently. About passed out it was so good. My eyes rolled in my head.

most well water has a funky smell and a mud taste to it, really nothing you can do to it.

taking showers feels different and your skin feels more "klingy" because of the minerals in the water and anyplace water stays it leaves an orange brownish stain to it so the water leaves minerals behind that "color" surfaces they flow onto. so when you go look, that toilet isn't unclean, its just stained by the minerals in the well water.

as to the septic, that could be an issue, make sure its up to the latest codes or you may need to replace it when you buy the place. its not "huge" money but nothing to sneeze at in the area of possibly $500-$2000 depending on whats involved. also you save on no water or sewerage bill but most septic systems today require aerators to run 24/7 so there is a small constant electric cost to them that kind of makes any savings there a lot less.

I would never "want" well water but wouldn't let it stop me from buying a house I really liked. I wouldn't want to drink it, certainly wouldn't use it for cooking unless I wanted to add a mud taste, and I really don't feel good bathing in it.

so while you are asking questions, find out what it would cost to hook up to the town water and sewerage of if that is even an option.

as far as the septic, having that can save you money on sewerage bill increases but often they add sewerage fees to your water bill so that's another thing to ask about, if you had town water would they charge you sewerage fees too.

signs of leaks in the septic system is lush green patches of grass, grass is the greenest when it grows in sewerage. likewise if you see dead grass near the gas meter or line, leaking gas turns grass very green at first but then it dies so brown patches where gas lines are can indicate gas leaks under ground

    hope that helps

I'd just add that if the lush green grass covers the entire area of the field then that is normal. It's when parts are uneven that you should be concerned.

    Morning TW!

    mmmmmmmmmmm, chili was delish!!:hungry:

Thanks for the tips on septic systems guys! The whole concept of them is kinda crappy  But if ya really wanna live in the boonies, ya don't really have a choice I suppose.

Maybe a place will come up that's on the edge of town with a big lot, that's still close enough in that it's on city sewer & water. That'd be nice. Less crap to maintain.

Besides, as much as I like that house, I know there's no chance we'd get our bathroom done before someone else buys it. Unless there's something seriously f'ed up about it, in which case we probably wouldn't want it anyway.

Hoping it stays dry long enough to mow today. I forgot how fun this time of year is in that regard - if you miss your dry 2 hr window to mow for the week, your house instantly looks like it's been abandoned for 3 years. You can practically watch the grass grow in front of your eyes from all the rain!! And scooping dog turds that have been saturated with bazillions of gallons of water - fun times.

Oh yeah, forgot about the mower dilemma also. Ours ate through another carburetor, and this one was just put in last spring! To replace the carb before that, which also died! Not sure why it keeps crapping out carbs, but our neighbor had an extra Craftsman (girlfriend moved in, and brought her Honda mower!), so he gave it to us. It works fine, but I'm not used to the self propel (our old one was super basic), so every time I make a turn, I wind up doing donuts in the super wet ass lawn. :mudding::laugh: And if I don't use the self propel - well, that's not really an option. This mower is way heavier/bigger than our old one, so pushing it is not really possible.

How do I stop doing donuts with the self propel on?

install umbrella on mower and wear rubber boots to solve problem :rain:

that cant be right, all it should ever need is a good cleaning, there are no parts in a carb that should be going bad like that. chanses are its just dirt or trash in the gas getting in it and blocking up the float.

tell eric to do this next time it doesn't want to run

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nudnwDKtz9w

haven't you heard? shit floats, just let it float into the drainage ditch or someone elses yard

or there is this option: http://www.amazon.com/Simple-Soluti...72126&sr=8-2&keywords=washable+dog+diapers+xl

as for the burn out problems, just put on a set of these
    [IMG]

the self propelled mowers are always heavy and hard to push. its heavy so it has traction to push itself and its hard to push because your feeling the resistance of you turning the drive gears when you push it

I'd just get rid of the mower for a Honda :p. I had a bad carb on my Honda after 5 years, took it apart and cleaned it at home, threw it back on, and it's gone 3 more years with now issues. Still starts like new.

unlike cars, most mowers of equal size all use the exact same carbs made by the same company so the carb in your mower is most likely the same carb in a Honda or snapper or toro or any other mower

Could be, but I used to basically buy a mower every year and give the old one to a neighbor until I bought my Honda. I'm sure that's why the carb gunked up, because it wasn't made by Honda :p. I've been really impressed with how their small engines hold up. We use only Honda engined small equipment now at work and it's saved us so much time we used to spend dinking around on Hyundai, Briggs, and other crap engines.

    from Wikipedia:

    MOW - to mow, mowing
A person or machine that cuts (mows) grass or other plants that grow on the ground. Usually mowing is distinguished from reaping, which uses similar implements, but is the traditional term for harvesting grain crops, e.g. with reapers and combines.

A smaller mower used for lawns and sports grounds (playing fields) is called a lawn mower or grounds mower, which is often self-powered, or may also be small enough to be pushed by the operator. Grounds mowers have reel or rotary cutters. Larger mowers or mower-conditioners are mainly used to cut grass (or other crops) for hay or silage and often place the cut material into rows, which are referred to as windrows. Swathers (or windrowers) are also used to cut grass (and grain crops). Prior to the invention and adoption of mechanized mowers, (and today in places where use of a mower is impractical or uneconomical), grass and grain crops were cut by hand using scythes or sickles.

I gotta say, from my personal experiences, I kinda believe in the Honda mower quality theory. Our Honda pressure washer is seriously used and abused like crazy with the ongoing fencing project, yet it runs like a champ for years and years now. These damn Briggs mowers that we get at Sears die on us within a few years it seems. Gets old. And feels wasteful. Might be time to add "Honda mower" to the list of budget priorities! To match the PW!! :D In red of course :D

In the meantime, beggars can't be choosers. Guess I'll just keeping burning out all over the lawn with my giant heavy ass Craftsmen til we are ready to go get a Honda! Might be off the hook for today though - it's pouring buckets out there right now.

So instead, I'm making Chocolate Bourbon Walnut Pie. With all butter crust, of course. :hungry:

@Dirty Pool , don't you miss seeing pretty green grass though? As much as I complain about mowing wet grass, crappy mower carbs, etc, it's worth it to me to see everything so lush and green and pretty the majority of the year. Sort of. Don't ask me that during a downpour when we are trying to install drainage lines and haul gravel for them, then the Taco suddenly breaks down. At those times, the lush thing isn't so worthwhile.........sunshine and desert climate would be a huge improvement at those moments

My mower is technically a Honda engined Sears mower. My parents have a Honda engined Troy that's the same age. Either or will hold up fine in my experience but if you can keep the old one running that saves you money too. ;)

you do know the mower is just a frame that holds ANY engine right? you can buy a Honda engine to put on your mower frame for around $200

if your mower frame is in good condition, this can save you money

overall I agree Honda puts more quality into the stuff they make so while they might use the same carbs and blades as other mowers, the engines are much better.

take that engine off the self propelled mower and put it on your mowers frame and you have a brand new mower again
