I saw that video and I don't think that I could handle that much of a clunk.

Since you always seem so open to suggestions, have you tried the method where you use the truck as your spring compressor?

It's how I've always done it and it seems much safer than a spring compressor to me. Those things scare me.

    I'm all ears!

I see Bruce chimed in as well! Cool, I'll try it that way instead.

Are you guys doing it the same way as

Derek's @DDD YouTube video on how to use the LCA and a floor jack? Is that the way your referring too?

Yes. It feels very secure when you do it. I've done mine and a buddy's. Worked like a charm both times.

    Just the basics
For the past couple months I've had some intermittent clunking noises but not like in the video you shared. I am disappointed in the OME kit. It is far better than stock for my uses but I wish I had gone with Allpro custom leafs and maybe 5100s up front.

Which springs do you have? I've got the 855 coils.

I recently saw an allpro leaf pack apart @tyfoon11 , there were leaf spring isolators between each leaf. Not so with the Dakar!

I like the Dakar for its load carrying capacity, but the squeak can be unbearable unless action is taken. The zip ties I installed are holding fast in 3 of 4 locations. I still need to pick up some stout ones to put in there... :(

The OME rear shock is exactly the same length as the Toyota stock one. This is by design. OME did not want you to have to purchase extended brake lines. So the shock is limiting travel. Plus you have to use a prybar to widen the lower shock mount, so not exactly bolt on replacement.

Once I deal with the front, I'll dust off the extended brake lines and get them installed, then disconnect the shock, flex the rear and measure, then go research.... Replacing the shock with a longer one is on my list but much lower priority, mainly because it's working. :)

So it's not just the OME? That makes me feel better. :)

The impact gun took apart the Tacoma like child's play. Took less than 5 minutes and LCA was on the floor. I cleaned the bolts and bushings, while Jeff @jeffz0rz chiseled off the factory tabs, cleaned and burned on the new TC cam tabs and then painted. Then i put back LCA. It was awesome working in tandem. The Firestone tech even came to me and complemented Jeff's work! Thank you Jeff!

    A couple notes.

-I greased my bolts and cams 2 years ago this month. When I took them apart, they looked like they were greased yesterday!
-I think all but one of the bushings now has the rust cancer. :D
-I cleaned the bushings real well, used a 12 gauge shotgun brass brush and screw gun to clean bushings and reapply grease.

I'm posting this mobile, so hopefully it looks okay.

Are you certain that the upper control arms aren't hitting the coils. So when you hit the speed bump it compresses and when the coil rebounds and extends the upper control arm might make contact with the coil. I had the same sound when i had my OME 886s and nitro suspension and was never able to figure it out. I switched to the 5100s at the same time as I upgraded upgraded to the all-pro UCAs so im not sure if it was the UCAS or the nitro shocks. I have had zero issues once i switched. To be honest i was not overly impressed with the OME suspension. The wore out in about 45k miles which is not that good. People get 100k miles on stock shocks. The bilsteins also seem to be more refined and they offer so many more different options as far as shock length, remote resistors, levels, etc. LIttle things like alan key in top of the socks to hold the shot while you tighten the upper assembly. The OME you have to put a crecent wrench on it..... Plus they are less expensive. Ill be sticking with the bilsteins from now on. Cheers

    Thanks Eric. Makes sense.

Spencer, Thanks for chiming in with your comments. In my case I am 100% sure it's the shock. I've done an assload of research on the condition in question. And my UCA's never made contact with the coil under any circumstances. If contact was being made, there would be marks on the coil / arm, and there never was. Even when jacked up and I applied all the pressure I could, it would not extend that far.

I'm looking forward to putting in the 5100. :proposetoast: Can't wait, just have to figure out how I can schedule some "work on the truck time". :(

 I am looking forward to your future experiment.

I'm so glad I am hearing all this before I just went to OME again for the 2nd gen. Great on the 1st gen, no probs on or off road, sawybar removed, very happy.

I almost pulled the trigger on a set for the 2nd gen in late summer, then I started running across these issues that I never heard before because not 1st gen probs.

I'm keeping my powder dry for now, doing more research, and waiting for some financial things to clarify before pulling the trigger on anything, likely in spring. Based on all that I have seen so far, I am fixating on Kings (with Dakars in back), but I would be reeeeaaaaaly interested to see what happens with the OME BP-51s.

I just emailed Cruiser Outfitters to see if they have any news or an ETA.

    Certainly, no prob.

This just in from Kurt at CO
    :
    I just spoke with ARB
and got the latest and greatest update on those. They are
hoping to see the 2nd Gen Tacoma applications in the spring
of 2016. The current models have been selling extremely well
which has understandably slowed production on the older
models and new applications. Thanks for checking and let us
know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

I inquired about the BP51s back in September, this is what I got:

    Hi Jay,

Sorry about the delay on response as I was holding off until yesterdays meeting's. The Tacoma is in the pipes and will be in production before the end of the year. The tuning is coming along great and on schedule. Unfortunately that means we may not see them till December/January at the earliest if everything stays on track.

Thanks for your inquiry and check back with me later this year on updates. I have personally drove our company Tacoma with the prototype BP-51 suspension installed and it is quite an improvement on and off road.

    Tom Niebauer

at the time I was thinking "quite an improvement" wasn't exactly a ringing endorsement, lol. still very curious about them though

The 5100's are here. Gonna put em on tomorrow. I will use the "normal" ride height setting, because the 885 OME coils provide about 2.5" of height increase over stock.

Interesting. What outfit is this message from? I really wish we could test drive some of this stuff before shelling our beau coup bucks.
