I went out and bought a gallon of fluid film from my local john deere dealer today. I washed down the frame and waited an hour or two. Then used a paint sprayer hooked up to my 60 gallon compressor and went to town. I did the whole frame, transmission crossmember, leaf springs, inside of the rear bumper, sprayed for about 20 seconds on each boxed section of the frame, inside the trailer hitch, the spare tire and as best I could on the inside of the rear fenders and the rear diff. I'm hoping I used enough, I used about 1/8 of the gallon, in one of the pics you can see how I rubbed my finger in the oil to see how thick of a layer I put on. You can see where I touched I circled it in red. Everything was sprayed consistently. Any input on how good the layer of fluid film is would be appreciated. Jist wondering if i put enough on cause I live in northeast ohio, Thanks20151111_173937.jpg 20151111_164850.jpg 20151111_165143.jpg 20151111_165153.jpg 20151111_165031.jpg 20151111_165039.jpg 2015-11-11 17.46.29.jpg

    EDIT:
Used the new "economy" cheapo undercoating gun I bought from summit. It didn't come with the bottle on the gun, the bottle was an additional $5. Anyway this undercoating gun put the fluid film on THICK. oh well, if anything it will give me a good price of mind. I used 3/4 of a gallon, let me know your thoughts on if I used too much with this new gun. Check out the new pictures below and let me know your opions either positive and negative.

Looks good to me but this is my first year with FF too. Make sure you got inside the boxed portion of the frame in the front. From what I've read that is where it's likely to rust from the inside out.

Also my first year with fluid flim, so far I like it used around quarter of a gallon. Water seems to bead up when it comes into contact with the FF, which I assume means it's doing its job. I've heared noting but good about the product.

What kind of spray gun is that? I was thinking of ordering the whole package from the internet with the upgraded spray gun, but its pretty expensive.. Also im not sure i can use the gun for paint or if its just for the fluid film.

    thanks

    I use about a gallon a year.

...maybe I overdo it a smidge. The first year I painted it on like paint. I now have the sprayer so I probably use less, but I definitely used 3/4 of my can last year.

EDIT: I saturate inside the box sections. This past summer FF was weeping out of my frame any day the temperature was above 85°F.

This is the $20 harbor freight special that has been laying in my garage for 8 years. And with the ff specific guns I don't think you can paint with them, unless maybe you get the adjustable one.

How did everyone end up doing the boxed section? I just held the sprayer in there as far as I could for like 40 seconds on each side.

Thanks, does it have the item number on it? The Harbor Freight website has two guns that look like yours. One is an automotive gun that uses 20-55 psi or a heavy duty one that uses 60-115 psi?

It worked okay for something I had laying around, sometimes it wouldnt feed real well so I had to adjust the top thumbs crew on the handle. I've been looking into it and it sounds like from what I've read these work better

I almost ordered the exact same thing, except they had it with a spray gun and 1 gallon rather then 2. I read up on that style of spray gun and my friend uses the one I posted from summit racing which looks just like that one and he says it works real well.

No problem, I'll probably buy that sprayer that I posted the link from summit racing since it's only $16 and I live 30 min from there. I'd like to try it since my harbor freight sprayer didn't feed the oil well. Also I tried the harbor freight spray at different pressures, I found it worked best at 60 psi, and it didn't feed at all below 45psi.

So do I need to be careful to not get it on anything special? I am getting a Full lift kit put in this weekend and would like to order that 1 gallon can kit with gun. And do it next week, it is okay to get it on shocks, springs, leafs etc etc etc

Any worries of getting it on anything specific? And what do I clean the gun with?

I sprayed it on my leaf springs. And it say it should harm paints or plastics, also I've watch videos by fluid film showing them using it as a tire shiner so I'd assume it's safe for rubber. In the video they use it as a tire shine a the 2:10 mark
