    I wanted to be able to go off road and not worry about sidewall damage as much. Have you gone on the trails like Socar has pictures of in your P rated tires as well? Have you been in a truck with the E's by chance?

    no I live on East coast but have been on trails much like Socar pictures minus the Cactus, definetly get the P Rated you will not like the E rated tire it would be like driving on cinder blocks

    Hrmmm.....ha yeah not so worried about cactus (western dudes....should I be?). It was more about the sidewalk. I really don't want to have a sidewalk blow out. I know hypoxic has E's and has mentioned they don't ride harsh like the other E's he's been in before. It's funny people's experiences with these things. I do appreciate your input though. I will certainly give the P's adequate consideration given your warning.

    I would not get E rated tires they are way overkill for a light duty 1/2ton truck and a DD

    bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....
    I live off gravel road, off a gravel road in the Cherokee national forest...these tend to pack the gravel instead of spinning gravel. I don't need to look for poor quality roads, I drive them daily.

    no I never had a need for E rated tires since I don't carry heavy loads that would require a 10 ply tire

    never had E rated tires,they are used primarily for carrying very heavy loads and are 10 ply as opposed to a 2 ply P metric which are used as an all around tire. I know this if you buy a 10 ply tire the ride and comfort will be sacrificed by the stiffer tire not ideal situation if the truck is a daily driver,if its a workhorse hauler than I guess it would be good.

    Thank you Mush, I read the pages. There were some rather good points on both sides for the E vs P argument. :) I noticed one of the guys mentioned putting ICON coilovers on at the same time as an E rated tire and really liking the ride. I was myself planning on doing an ICON coilover setup :)

    I appreciate yours and everyone else's help with my decision. About the only thing for sure is I'm getting michelins lol :)

    I can tell you from personal experience that an E rated LTX rides much better (empty truck) than the Rugged Trails that came on the truck. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing those were P rated?

    anything rides better than Rugged Fails, if you match a P rated LTX versus a E Rated LTX of basically the same size the P rated gives better all around comfort and performance while the E Rated wins with carrying very heavy loads and has thicker skin 10 ply and wont ride or have the handling characteristics of a P rated.

    I guess this quote is why I asked if you'd ever actually had any E rated michelins....

    I will admit that I've never driven on cinder blocks, but I have to imagine that it's quite unlike the ride I get from my michelins :D

    I know you read a bunch of stuff about tire ratings but I can tell you that whatever michelin does in the manufacturing of these ltx tires results in an incredibly plush ride. even with E rated tires.

    -WeatherTech liners
    Narrower is always best for snow/ice. Narrower tire provides more pressure on the contact patch. A wider tire provides less pressure on the contact path, thus reducing traction on snow/ice. You want to penetrate the snow/ice/slush/muck, not float on it.
