    Bravo Zulo, on many accounts.

I was shocked when I was stationed in the Tidewater area. I lived down by Currituck, NC and discovered that the locals hunting deer ran deer with dogs, often with platforms in the back of the truck to shoot buckshot as they ran out of the swamp. In many States with snow it is legal to shoot a dog running deer. Which is why I do not hunt birds during deer season even with a blaze orange vest on the dog. Looks like a fox to begin with, not worth it.

I know the sound of a dog that bays well also. And it is music to my ears...

Awesome morning in the marsh with a buddy. We ended up with 8 mallards, 3 teal and a ringneck.

Nice! Southern Tier is Tioga, Chemung, and Stuben Counties of NY. Twin Tiers include the Pa. Counties of Bradford, Tioga, and Potter counties. In the 60's and 70's NY had more deer per square mile than any other State. Alabama took over then it spread it to other States due to a better understanding of deer management practices.

Chemung County, town of Chemung on Bodines Hill behind the race track in the 80's when I was "home" for recruiting duty. My grandpa's Winchester 94 for comparison but back then it was shotgun only. Grandpa drove me up to Ithaca to pick up a deerslayer barrel in 16 ga. right before I turned 16. A memory I will never forget. If you didn't shoot an Ithaca back then you were considered some sort of Communist LOL.

Measured out for book but I never entered it. P&Y HQ and museum is 20 miles to the South of where I now live. For good reason.

The same shit everyone else has.
Thanks for the info. Didnt intended to start that argument with my question.

We hunted Allegheny National Forest Saturday and the Laurel Highlands today. Didnt see a single bear but tons of sign.

Also, just an FYI, you cant hunt bears with dogs or bait in PA. All sit and wait or walk and stalk

I usually follow those times when hunting a refuge where there are a bunch of other hunters near by, those times are also in the booklets that you can pick up at the refuge. If I'm out in a field with no one around I usually just call hunting time 30 min before first light, and that's only a couple minutes off of what is posted on their website. Most of the time you can't even tell what you're shooting at 30 min before first light, so I usually just hold off until its brighter outside.

Yeah I normally see the times posted at the refuge. I see you're from SD. I shoot at Wister whenever my father or I happen to get draws. I do the same with shooting times on my own, just wasn't sure if there was a specific posting anywhere.

If you shoot early at wister you're going to piss off a lot of hunters. Went on Wednesday and it sounded like a war zone right at first light, after about an hour the wind picked way up the birds just couldn't put it down so we left with only 3 birds. 1 gwt, 1 pintail, 1 spoony.

Its like that every time. I've been shooting there for about 3 years now. Hunters usually shoot 5-10 minutes before designated time. Birds fly for those first 15-30 minutes. After that you're just waiting to pick off whatever happens to fly by. I shoot Wednesdays and Saturdays, but never bother with sundays.

Nice deer. Good to see someone in PA got one.

I shot a doe this evening but by the time I got to it it was too dark to even snap a good picture.

I hunt on my family's farm. All the neighbors have decent size pieces of property as well. Only a few of them hunt, so its pretty private here as well. It was pretty quiet here until about 4pm with a few shots throughout the day. I walked for bout an hour during the day and spooked a few in heavy cover. It wasnt until about 430 that the deer finally started moving. All said and done, I only saw 10 of them, which is less than normal.

Thank you! We hunted hard, they don't get that nice by being stupid. P.S. that's the first deer my boy has ever shot at, and he hammered him!
