What is a good price to pay a shop to install a set of 5100's in the front? I would supply the shocks and curious on what time/labor normally runs.

Labor varies by location, most shops are going to use a flat rate book time charge, regardless of actual time.

So. To be accurate, call a local shop, ask what the flat rate time is for your strut change and what their rate is.

(I'll guess 3 hours @ $100/hr. Enough to encourage someone like me to DIY)

^^^ $300-$400 seems like an average price.

If your location (Quad cities) means the Davenport/Bettendorf/Moline area, drive to Dubuque and we'll do it in my driveway for shits and giggles. You can pay whatever you feel is fair after the job's done:thumbsup:

Quote prices for this sort of thing will be all over the place. There is more than one way to install them, too.

I would take him up on that offer, shops will overcharge you and if you do it yourself/ have someone do it for you while you watch you'll learn a lot more
I did my front and rear mid travel icon set up by myself no prior experience either its a lot simpler than you think

x2......this is a really, really easy install - especially with a couple under your belt.

I've done 2 Tacoma 5100 installs and an Icon setup on my old FJ. Save your money - the only thing you should pay a shop for is the alignment!

Wow I must have made out real good with Roger's Tire in Rhode Island. Paid 269.00 total bill for installing new 5100's and an alignment.

Yep. Shocks go bad and warranties run out.

Change shocks twice and you've spent enough for; jacks, jackstands, spring compressor, wrenches, sockets, etc.

The cost of knowing the job is done right is priceless to me and I enjoy it.
I understand if your physically unable, though.

Physically unable? No. Do I have the tools and knowledge? No.
Something as important as suspension I would like to have someone that knows what they are doing performing the work.

I was quoted 600 ( 100 per hour for 6 hours ) locally for a pro comp lift for install front Springs and rear add a leaf. With new ucas probably would have been another 4 hours labor. Did it myself in garage on the floor and got my ucas for that same price for a better kit. Took about 5 hours taking my time. I'm a licensed mechanic so id like to think I know what I'm doing but it's nothing you can't tackle yourself by reading the 'how to's' in the forum here. Save your cash

In my case, that would be me. :D

Make sure he gets; the cup on there the right way, orients the spring correctly, puts it back the side it came off, torques correctly, etc....

    Workin' on it....
Interesting. I've been thinking about a stage 3 icon setup. Never done anything like this myself and I'd have to invest in some tools (jack & stands) but I've been watching some YouTube videos so perhaps after some more research I may be willing to attempt this on my own but like the OP I'd like to make sure that it's done right.

Nice to know there are some folks on here willing to lend some advice over PM.

For what its worth, I had never renovated a kitchen before either but after extensive watching of Youtube videos, I ripped my entire kitchen apart a year and a half ago down to bare walls and subfloor - installed a tile floor, cabinets, mitered my own countertops and did the new sink & plumbing. Turned out pretty decent and saved thousands in labor costs. Took my wife and I a month of working on it during evenings (including a 2 week interruption due to a forklift damage on the first set of cabinets while replacements were ordered) after I got home from my regular job but we got it done.

Speaking of alignment, is there any specs for our truck with 3 inch lift in the front and 2 inch in the back?

I paid $80 for the install. The front end alignment was about the same cost.
