Please excuse my ignorance on this, but how do you use the crawl control and terrain select features on the new off road Tacoma. Just picked one up.
I don't really do much off roading, but I want to make sure if I need to use them I'm doing it correctly.

Also I tried to use it to climb up a little paved incline and couldn't get it to work.

Did your truck not come with an owners manual?

i would highly suggest reading the manual. It's supposed to be used in 4 LO, and not on pavement.

I did read the manual and did what it said. I know about not using 4 low on pavement especially turns. It kept telling me to put it in 4 low then sift to drive and wouldn't do anything from there.

For clarification, I stopped at a paved incline in drive at a complete stop put it in 4 low and pushed the crawl control and terrain buttons to try and get it to crawl up the incline. Didn't push the buttons at the same time obviously. It did nothing. Didn't move at all. Turned it all off and went home. I'm posting here for clarification so I know how to do it correctly.

The salesman should have sat in the vehicle with you before you left the lot and explained all functions of the truck.

What position was your transmission shift lever? It will not engage in P or N.
Reference page 260 of you owner's manual. Certain conditions must be met.

Don't feel bad, not everyone starts with a 4x4 let alone all the crawl stuff. It probably did not work because 4 low did not engage yet. In order to get 4 low or high to engage you have to hit the button and go a couple of yards until it clicks in. (feel free to correct me vets) On your dashboard you will see the 4x4 light go from blinking to solid letting you know it is in. Once it is engaged you can do the crawl control stuff. Note that you wont really get a good feel for the crawl control unless you are on terrain where the wheels are slipping and the system can start doing its thing. Enjoy your truck :)

Thanks for the info Gurney and Slitbolt. Very helpful. I guess I need to start with the how to use 4wd in the owners manual before the crawl control features.

He was right about the blinking and solid green and red. Anything blinking and its not in gaged. But although not necessary go do this in the dirt. Use it or lose it, and why not!
Good luck man! with the assisted trac. control.

I too was a newbie to the crawl control system and initially experienced what you did (lack of response).... finally got it to work (it's awesome)... good advice on this thread... just know that the CC is not an exact engagement, you kinda need to know it's sweet spot to get it to engage, which just takes a little experience. Don't test on pavement. Engage while in D or N. Also, if you test it on flat dirt it will make A LOT of clicking sounds... try to test on incline/decline. good luck.
