I am waiting to receive a n ARB Diff Breather Kit. After a recent trail run, I determined that the inexpensive kit would be worth the install.

Prior to starting this install, I am seeking advice on placement of the filter head and routing of the hoses.

I have decided to locate the filter, high, in the engine bay. The kit comes with two runs that I will use on the front and rear differentials. At a later time I intend to also add the transfer case and transmission to the filter manifold.

    Any suggestions on the install?

    Thank you.

I made my own and ran it behind the tail light. Easiest spot, out of sight, no drilling

Thank you for you prompt replies!
I originally planed on mounting it in the bed cubby but realized that (runs versus distance) the engine compartment would be the most logical choice (with the ARB kit).
The most logical arrangement of all would have been home brewed setups, as you both mentioned, run to the closest individual high spots as opposed to one central manifold.

Front diff case, and from diff actuator already have breather lines that go up high to just below the master cylinder on the driver inner fender, they would not need to be extended unless you want to go even higher

Rear diff case has the lil stubby breather that people extend to various places (i did mine to the rear tail light, thats WAY higher than the truck will ever see)
Rear diff lock actuator has a breather that goes up to the cross member just below the bed above the axle, this could possibly be extended if you dunk your truck to that level

Transmission has a breather that goes to the top of the bell housing on the back of the motor, its about a foot or so lower than the front diff breathers

Transfer case actuator has a small line that goes from the actuator to the transfer case
Transfer case has a breather that lays on top of the transmission.

Nice! I did not realize this. That's what get for not researching.
Screw it! Well for shits and giggles, I am going to route all to the ARB anyway.

Tacoma world is great! For all the sarcastic, useless dumbasses on here, there are many more helpful informative members! Sorry, I am imbibing in a little whiskey tonight.

    Ich auch!! (Me also)

The rear diff breather was easily the simplest mod I've done to the truck so far. And certainly among the cheapest! Two parts from Toyota, couple hose clamps, and some fuel line hose. Already had a drill bit, cordless drill, and wrenches.

I did mine just like @taczilla did. In the storage box.

You still have your part numbers. Whenever I look I find contradicting part numbers

I used the part numbers in the thread others linked to. The diff breather dummies mod thread. Toyota dealer had the two items in stock.

Thanks. I looked up those same numbers. I think it was the same thread that I found contradicting numbers. Will get them ordered. Dealer is a trip would rather deal with shipping.

    Are floor mats a mod?
The hose that comes with it wont work with Toyota fittings. Here's what I did- used the upper fitting for both the pumpkin and the breather head Worked great.

I routed mine up by my gas cap. Its easy to get to and I can check to make sure the vent head isn't seized. No need to be blowing seals ;)

Another note. Relocating the stock breather is pretty much useless, as it is still a 1 way valve, so when your rear diff cools and tries to,suck in air, the valve will still shut, and you will still suck water in thru the seals. That's why you want a 2 way breather and trash the stock valve.

Finally got around to verifying that the sport had the factory breather extensions in the front. It does!
My new plan is to install the ARB diff breather kit in one of the bed side cubbies and run the rear diff and transfer case or transmission (which ever is not factory extended).
Picked up the unions today and will be installing next week.
Thanks to all for the advice!

Hi guys- are the tacoma unions that go into the axles the same size as the ones supplied by ARB or will I need to order them from tacoma and get a hose that fits. No one explicitly states that here but seems like that is the case. thanks.

so you used both parts in your second picture to make it work with the arb kit? im thinking of going the same route as you just wanna make sure i have the right parts before i go at it. also your line looks different? is it fuel line? if you want to pm on how you did it that would be cool too. just trying to get a feel for how you did it.
