I don't even want to think about the miles walked and the dog ran the last few days. My whole body feels it, might take at least half a day off tomorrow if not the whole day. Dog could use a rest too and has earned it. No TV or much else here in the cabin on the edge of the BWCA Wilderness. Do have this little pocket with cell phone reception so just set up the phone as a hotspot to see what was going on in the rest of the world.

Early this afternoon heard what I thought was thunder, but it was too cold for that. A few seconds later heard the turbines of a fighter jet most likely out of Duluth. It hit me just how remote this place is that they can break the sound barrier over land here. They do that where I hunt pheasant in SD\ND border out of Minot ND also.

One thing about snow is you no longer wonder just how many wolves are around. The 2 prints below it are of my dog.

I miss the mountains, a lot. This place does grow on you though.

Typical good old Swedish name which much of Mn. seems to be.

Hope everyone has a great and safe Thanksgiving also!

Happy Thanksgiving all! 21 and snowing hard here. Good day for a nap, driving into town, nap, cooking and eating, and did I mention a nap?!

My bad Roger it is hard to tell with just the wings on the bird, it is a ruffed grouse. Used to have a good population of them in Southern Tier of NY and the Adirondacks in the 70's and 80's. They are the birds that take off when you least expected it, seldom see them in the thick forest cover they like and are really loud their wings beat so fast. The Iroquois used to call them the Thunderbird because that is what they sound like when they flush.

    Morning all

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. And have a great weekend.

I have the 4 days off. Which is new to me since I took this corporate gig (been self employed most of my adult life)

Since my wife's mom passed in April, and we have no family here, we decided to go to a local / famous waterfront restaurant. Great fresh turkey, ham, and all the fixins. All free with donations accepted for Habitat for Humanity.

And it was real nice. They table you up with others if you are a single or small group. We ate with a Philipino family from Jersey. Their 1st time on our coast. When they (mom dad and 3 teens) bowed their heads in prayer, and reached out to all hold hands, I loved it.

You wouldn't believe the long line waiting to eat and give. Non stop from 11am till 7pm.
Don't know the totals, but I'm sure they raised 10's of thousands for Habitat.

What a great day. Good food. Good cause. And we made new friends.
    A true Thanksgiving Blessing. :)
