    i'd prefer 22awg but $950.

Range wise with an FRS you could probably do front and rear in a group of 12. But the biggest problem will be the fact that hardly anyone will be using those, if you step out of your vehicle, very likely nobody else will carry them along.

The Midland is a CB, but with a longer externally mounted antenna you could get better range, about 1/2 - 1 mile or 6 if you have LOS. But because of its limited power and band limitations, you can't beat HAM.

Yeah I wouldn't use it out side of the truck, figure I'd just store it away when not in use. I've wired a few cb's into previous trucks and so rarely used them I figured I buy a hand held that's not mounted in the truck I can hopefully have it for life.

Well, that's really a use-case/scenario thing. We all use CBs so we can talk to one another and keep one another up to date on trail conditions or if someone's out of their vehicle or we're all piled up for one reason or another. If you go on one trip a year, it might not be worth it to spend the 100 bucks for the Cobra Road Trip CB or the effort of installing a cheaper 520XL.

But if you go on a bunch of trips or ride along etc, that's a different story.

But if you're thinking about versatility, you should strongly consider HAM. High powered, you can use it anywhere in the USA. Cheaper Handheld Transceivers (HTs) that can hit 8W like the BaoFeng BF-F8HP will set you back ~70 bucks, but can also pickup weather channels and commercial FM Radio Broadcast. If you have folks like @bjmoose in your group, someone with an FT-8900R, they can do cross-band repeat and send your signal out miles ahead of the group to a secondary group from your HT. Or switchover to local repeaters and talk to people across the country.

    ^Added.

Pit bull, it's probably too late for a mail in permit, so hopefully the market in upper lake has them for sale.

    Thanks man!
I'm an idiot I swear I never saw them... Great pics, 4-5 inches of snow!
I call it parent brain. Prob distracted with the kids crying or some crap.. The other day after I ate my eggs for breakfast I tryed to put my empty plate in the refrigerator.;) Damn.

Any of you AT guys me included going to just run the fire road to Hull and not even try the wheeling trails for the MT trucks up to Hull?
I wanted to ask just to see if there might be a couple groups once we get there.? Guess I'll play it by ear..

    Thanks,

    Brett

^ Jeep club!? Hell no this is Toyota Trav!? Lol
Was just trying to figure what everyone wanted to do.:D

For myself with the pics Anthony posted and with 30 plus rigs going the road will get a little messy.
    That's all.. No biggie:crapstorm:.

Not my thread and not hijacking it.
The fire road for me might still be a bit frozen so it might be a lighter foot print..

    Thanks,

    Brett

Let's set up a meet around where I-5 and I-80 interchange. And from there we can head north on I-5 to Hwy 20. Something like the Sacramento 49ers truck stop or something off Del Paso Rd in Natomas
