I bought a pretty good rivet gun at 50% off at Pioneer Hardware in Wahiawa. It was actually 50% off of any item under $30.
Now I can start on my fender liners.

My trail grapplers are about halfway worn, so the sipes are getting smaller. So I decided to groove the center tread blocks. Instead of going over the original sipe location I just decided to split the Z shaped block into a chevron and little diamond shaped block. I wanted to stay a good distance away from the original sipe so it wouldn't create a weak spot and tear. Came out pretty good, I should have better traction with the additional biting edge in wet weather. I wouldn't say that it made the tire louder, maybe just a higher pitch hum. But the truck is so noisy as it is, I can't really tell much difference in sound.
*edit, I forgot to add that the damn gfi outlet would trip when I plugged the heated knife in, so all the cuts were made from the bed outlet. I was pretty impressed by it.

Letting the Ideal heated knife warm up.

    Hi-lift on sliders

    First cut

    Final cut

Close up of groove depth. #4 blade, u shaped

I remember when I used to go to walls, had an old timer that would come out with his paipo. Bigger days, he'd be far out with the surfers. He was able to catch the wave from outside, ride it and glide, then when it built back up on the inner reef, he'd still be on it! Rode it all the way, across the wall to the shoreline. Probably too lazy to paddle all the way back out. Walked out like a boss.

Where did you get that cool knife? And does it come with different thickness blades?

I picked up Rustoleum Universal Primer. Says bonds topcoat to difficult surfaces.

Its not that hard to make straight line cuts. It is almost like a big soldering iron that heats up the rubber, and the hot razor beneath it cuts the groove out.

Amazon. No it only comes with #4 head and blades, blades can be turned upside down to sipe. Blade depth can be adjusted, though.
