Long story short, I wasn't planning on buying a Taco today. All of the TRD OR are pre-sold before landing. One happened to pop up where the buyer put a security deposit but backed out at the last minute. So this DCLB TRD OR just happened to become available the day I was window shopping and the price was great and I figure I can make up any difference lost with the $3k I saved.

I don't care about the climate control, heated seats, parking sensor, blind spot monitoring, moonroof, etc. My only questions are on the stereo and headlights. Basically what am I looking at to get what the package offers or better?

On the stereo, mine does have entune and the stereo is pretty good, just not fantastic. The head unit is identical as far as I can tell, so I think I just need to upgrade the speakers and throw in an amp and a few subs?

On the headlights the housing still appear to be projectors... so I'm not really clear on what the difference is here. The DRLs look LED too. Anyone?

Not really sure what you're asking. The "package" you don't care for, I get that. So, you want to know what you can do with the stereo and headlights that will mimic (so to speak) the package?

Yes, I want to understand what is it that I'm missing out on exactly.

My ideal response would be (complete BSing but to give you an idea of what I'm asking):

Your headlight housing is part number xyz123 and the package gives you headlight OEM part number zyx321 which is HID instead of Halogen which produces a whiter light but the housing appears the same externally with the lights off.

Your stereo has the same head unit but the 2.5" tweeters in the dash and the 6" mids in the door aren't amplified and you're missing the 8" subs under the front seats.

I'd like someone to explain what the actual difference is going above and beyond would be telling me what I could do to retrofit the headlights and/or speakers or what aftermarket options are available that would be just as good. Although I understand aftermarket options are probably limited considering it's a new generation.

I'm pretty sure the headlights are identical, but on premium tech you get an added auto setting.

The jbl audio gives you upgraded amplified speakers however they are not nearly as powerful as a set of speakers you would instal and put let's say a four channel on. You can do better in the aftermarket in that category for sure. The sub is where it gets tricky. They put a small 8" ish sub in the cubby behind the passenger rear seat. This is obviously amplified but not very powerful. I would recommend adding a small shallow mount sub in that location or behind the driver seat. The question is if you want to remove the plastic or not. Removing gives you cheaper and larger box options so you can use a few more subwoofer options. I would use a kicker rt which Crutchfield has crazy good deals on right now with a small amp. Lots of people hate line out convertors so maybe get an amp with line level inputs and or get a signal processor. Does this help? If you have any more questions feel free to pm me. I used to work in car audio and can dig up any information you are wanting. Only thing I can't find this far is the space in those bins with the plastic left in. Apparently it is different then the 15 cause the air vents. Can't wait to get my truck!

Useful information. Do you know the speaker sizes/locations? I've done quite a bit of armature car audio in my past. Do the Tacos tend to rattle after taking stuff apart to install speakers? I'd like to upgrade the OEM speakers to some higher powered amplified speakers but I don't want to introduce a bunch of rattles from disassembling and reassembling the plastic.

Just tore into mine yesterday and will post up,some build pictures in a day or so, but to answer some of your questions the space behind the seat with or without the bins has changed. Getting a Sub in there is still possible, but the vents make it a bit of a challenge. As far as the door speakers go the are the same. The front doors are 6 X 9" and the tweeter has been moved to the dash. The adapters that are out there (i.e. ********* or Mr. Marv), still fit but I would stay away from *********. Terrible service.

Here's a few picks of the box I did for mine. Haven't powered it up yet, but got it all in.

Thanks for that info. So they would run fine, and sound decent, running off of the OEM H/U without an external amp? Or is this something that would be a replacement for the JBL speakers.

I would recommend doing some king of sound insulation right get around the speaker that usually helps with not only sound quality but makes as much sound come out of the door grill and less getting lost in the door causing creaking and rattling. The sizes are available online I believe I can dig them up if you need but it should have a set of 6x9 in the front doors with tweeters up on the dash and then smaller speakers in the rear doors. I was talking in another forum about the rear sI've I would get 6.5 but I think someone said they are smaller. Crutchfield to my knowledge has not torn apart a taco yet but they should be soon. Again let me know if you need me to get the sizes for you. Do you want recommendations for speakers? Give me a budget in an pm and I can send you over a list.

I haven't seen anyone write about the head lights. The FP and HH do not come with any different headlights. They all have the same headlights

I went the same way as you, man. I didn't need the tech package either. Although the dual zone would have been nice as my last two cars have had that. You guys think the non JBL radio sounds that bad? I don't know, I came from a 2014 Accord Sport that had only 4 speakers that sounded like transistor radio so my radio sounds like a Mark Levinson system compared to my Accord.

I have since changed my mind about getting the JBL. It uses up space in the back seat. I will just go with the PT package
