I just got my truck last night and took it out to mess with the various 4wd systems this afternoon. The road wasn't rough enough to need more than 4x4 but I was able to do basic tests on 4Hi, 4Lo, rear locker, Multi Terrain Select, and Crawl Control.

All but MTS were obvious in their operation. I also realized that I don't remember seeing anyone discuss actually using MTS and their results. I did a quick search and found nothing with any detail. There's a little bit on Crawl Control, but that's not what I'm interested in at this point.

It seems like MTS would be handy to run pretty much any time you are in 4Lo. It should give you extra brake-based traction control and reduce wheel slip and the need to engage the locker.

Have you used MTS in a situation where you noticed it doing something? Did it help? Have you played with the settings to see if there's a difference in practice?

    Thanks in advance.

I turned it on last weekend. But it wasn't a rough enough section to tell if it was actually doing anything or not.

Yeah, I don't remember anyone actually using it in conditions that caused it engage in any noticeable way. Even at the press event up in Washington, all the talk was about crawl control and nothing about MTS.

I turned it on today to "mud" and went through a 18" of mud about 100ft long and it did ok. Stock tires wouldn't have had a chance though

you should become stuck or find something you cannot overcome and then try the MTS to see if it helps out

I think if one were to find a mogul hill climb that got a tire in the air, that would be the most consistent test. You could take the same line with and without MTS at various settings, diff lock, and CRAWL control to see the difference. The important part is to take video so we can all learn from it. I'd be right there doing it, but my life schedule does not support much free time and with the recent rains, everything is closed locally.

That's part of the problem. Any time it rains it's like the end of the world. The trails and forest roads do get jacked pretty bad from people rutting them out when they are wet. I can't really blame the USFS for shutting it all down. It's not like they have money for maintenance.

From what I gathered from the manual, MTS only applies to braking

Partially. MTS only uses the brakes to control the rotational velocity of each wheel

I gave the MTS a try today at an OHV area, didn't really seem to make any difference (4lo vs mts). 4lo and 4h seemed to get the job done, not sure when and why exactly you would use the MTS

something too steep. Crawl Control uses the same system as MTS so it gets used elsewhere

    Nothing yet!
So I used it a few times and crawl control just to try it. I wasn’t stuck but I think the whole point is to not get stuck. I do know that the first time I headed up to Big Bear on the Holcomb Valley road I stayed in 4Hi and pretty much was fine the whole time. When I went this second time and kept it in 4Lo and used MTS most to try it, I’d say the journey was much easier and smoother. Maybe it was experience but I think MTS made a difference a little bit with traction. Could be me just over thinking it. I supposed id rather have it than not at all.

MTS is essentially ATRAC but with different presets for varying road conditionsa that allow for different amounts of wheel slippage before activation
