It could be the body or the lens. I am not exactly gentle with it.

I have been suspecting the lens. Its never seemed as good as it was, even after sending it off to Canon for that repair/tune-up.

Check out these two images. They are virtually the same scene, same body (50D) but two different lenses. The first is my 10-22 and the second is Marc's 10-18. These are crops from the full images from post process Tiffs. The images were at 100% on the monitor when I cropped them to show more detail. It is almost possible to read that yellow warning sign sticking up behind Ben's bed.

I know this isn't very scientific but I think this is the sort of thing you are seeing.

 

yea i think so. Odd. Must be the lens then? Of course the camera isn't very much healthier haha

 

Judging by the crinkles in Fugly's cab, image 2 is much more crisp

 

Yea the hood of bens and marc rigs are drastically different.

You don't think thats just slow shutter speed mike while being handheld?

 

Looks like the lens isn't as sharp. Nothing a touch of editing couldn't fix.

Year, this may be true too. May be time for a 7D Mk II.

Not normally, the shutter speeds weren't that low. But that was one of the differences between the two lenses. Both were at F9, 400 iso but the 10-18 was at 1/160 and the 10-22 was at 1/125.

 

Perfectly? No. You wont be able to fix all the blur or grainy image. Looks like a slight motion blur when I look in close. That could easily be from handheld shooting. It can be alleviated by quickly sharpening the image in photoshop. When pixel peeping it will still be different but if you did this with the original raw file before sizing down, I bet it would be fairly similar. Below is Mike's photo with a quick sharpen. If you took more time you could probably do a better job.

Get a new lens too haha

Sharpening only helps so much and its not going to help enough for that. It'll probably hurt the image overall if you sharpen it too much due to how it looks as it is.

Editing only does so much.

 

@Blackdawg i dont think im going to have time to meet up while im out here this week. Worked 32 of the past 48 hours and its probably going to be similar 16 hpur days the rest of the week. Ill be back in the area in january though

Yea it is a little bit. Came in at 7 today and still at the plant. Only to come back at 9 tonight for another 12 hour shift.

January might not be as busy though

 

I must have pissed off my truck. 4wd actuator acted up this morning. Gonna give it a couple taps with a hammer when I get home.

 

Hit it, sounded like there was some ice so thats on the list of things to do over break. I am done with these MTRs if someone is interested in them hit me up. I'll be ordering some new tires around the end of January.

 

Why?

 

Just garbage performance on road in winter conditions. I'd rather sell now than end up in a ditch or worse in a wreck. Not sure why I bought a mud terrain when I never go near mud. An AT will out perform these tires.

But fair enough. Makes sense. In a perfect world summer and winter tires would be best

 

No, the MTRs were nothing amazing off road. Good tire but there isn't a huge advantage to them outside of mud.

 

Till you hear it roar in downtown seattle with all the buildings. lol Mike I can't believe how clean your truck looks everytime you post a picture of it.

 

You don't Offroad so how could you known

In all seriousness. They are amazing Offroad. So not sure what your basing that off of..
