Do the 01-04 Taco tail light assemblies or lenses interchange with the 05-00 Taco tail lights? I like the look of the 01-04 lenses and am hoping it would be possible to use them with the 95-00 housings to save a few bux. If the lenses won't work with the older housings will the whole assembly interchange?

since the beds don't change I have to assume the lights will swap out but maybe not just the covers since the reverse light part is a little different.

would be nice to know this for sure since I agree with you the 01-04 lights are so much better looking

my assistant manager has a 99 prerunner, he said he put 04 tail lights right on. and it looks great! go a head and order them. worst case, you have to do very slight modifications to make it work. no trouble really at all.

You have to change the entire housing, and yes they will fit fine, plug and play. Putting 01-04 on a 95-00 work fine, putting 95-00 on a 01-04 won't work. They use an extra ground on the 01-04.

I have 2003 tail lights on my 1999.

there you go, we have confirmation and its not forward compatible even though I don't know who would take the 01-04 tail lights off to swap for the 95-00 lights, but its good to know

One guy on this forum liked the look of the 95-00 tail lights but they won't work

well every one has different taste, I know for me at least, I couldn't see swapping to the older style unless I already had some old lights laying around for free and my 01-04 lights weren't usable any more.

Cause you're weird Wyatt lol. The reverse light is the biggest difference. They actually work. The reverse light on 95-00 is useless

The PO mounted a halogen driving light to the receiver hitch on mine and wired it in to the backup lights.

I mounted 2 LED pods under my bumper, and then I got 2003 tail lights and installed LED bulbs in them. The reverse lights are much brighter, and the LED bulbs give it even a bit more lumens.

That is a question I don't know. I know they changed to LED lights in 09, but don't know if they're interchangeable.
