Have somebody in the cab while another floods the outside with water and see where the leak is coming from on the inside.

You can also try cranking the blower motors with the windows closed and spray soapy water on the outside around possible entry points

Toyota has had issues and tsb's on the 4 runner sunroof for the last 10 years. It's no secret that the design is not the best. The tube drains get clogged and kinked all the time. Plus the track tends to leak also.

If you have a sunroof (?), there are 4 drains, one in each corner (usually). If one of the hoses comes off or if the drain hoses are plugged or pinched, you have a big chance of water leaking into the vehicle.

But, it's under warranty, bring it to the dealer and let them figure it out. A good shop will have shower head attached to plumbing to allow the tech. to place water in different locations on the vehicle while looking for the leak. I have seen many crazy places leak water, from an unsealed body seams to gaskets miss positioned, but then again, I worked on GM vehicles.

Oh yeah, if the vehicle has a lot of water in it, the dealer should pull out the carpet and insulation to let it dry to prevent molding.

A good way to check drains is to open sunroof and poor a cup of water directly into drain (you will see them in corners of open sunroof). There is a channel so water won't get in cab. Water should drain out under truck behind front tires. Usually drains run inside and down the "A" post. If a cup of water doesn't drain under truck then they are clogged of disconnected. Good luck.

I took apart the back of the cab's interior. Actually much easier than I had anticipated. Took a hose to the vents with wife in the cab. Water was pouring in from around the vents. So, I put some marine quality silicone around the vents and put the interior back together. So far, so good.

It was coming in from around the vents and not through them?
Are they not sealed from the factory or did you have sealant failure?

May I ask why you didn't take it in? You purchased that warranty for a reason, so I would've used it.

Is the black thing in the picture the cab vent?
Also what does it do? Sorry I don't mean to jack the thread.

Yes. The design on the vent for the Access Cab looks better. The two vents on Double Cab do not turn up on the inside.

The water was coming from around the vents. The seal is a piece of rubber on the truck's exterior that depends upon inward pressure to seal. It's not very tight so it permitted water to leak in to the cab.

All vehicles have had some sort of similar vent since around the early 70's. Obviously located in different places in things like sedans and SUVs.........

Primary function as far as I can tell is to relieve cabin pressure when you close the doors with the windows up.

I really dislike service departments. For something this easy, I'd rather take care of it on my own. I'll leave the real headaches for the pros.

That and the whole project only took me an hour. Service department would have taken much longer and, in my experience, they wouldn't have fixed the problem.

I should also note that my purchase of the Tacoma had nothing to do with the warranty. If I was purchasing for a warranty, I would have bought a Hyundai which has much better warranties. I wanted the Tacoma. The warranty is a bonus.

Yeah I don't believe any of us simply purchased a Tacoma based on the warranty alone. I can see where the dealership could take forever just trying to locate the issue. Not trying to start anything, just curious. :)

The vents are a good place to look for leaking if you've ever had a car with water in the trunk- they're usually located on the sides behind the rear tires, usually covered by the wrap-around of the rear bumper. Hyundais had an issue with theirs for many years (used to work in service).
