I'd say about 90% I have full motion, but not without pain. I got lucky and the ambulance took me to scrips hospital even though I had Kaiser. They had one of the best orthopedic surgeons in southern California on staff at the time. 3 1/2 hours of surgery and 7 months of rehabilitation. When I went to the Kaiser doctor he looked at the x-rays and said he had no idea how I still had my foot... That's when I was REALLY glad I didn't argue with the paramedics.

I have to ask... What is the purpose of the yellow things sticking out? Do those get pulled out once healed? 0.o trying to avoid any injuries like that lol...

I was mountain biking a few years back and slipped a pedal a few miles outside of town and tore a gash in my knee. I stopped to assess the damage and decide what to do. My choices were to hike about a mile or so back uphill with my bike to the car or continue 3-4 miles down the trail back into town. Fuck walking... Hopped on my bike and shred the trail back to town and straight to the ER to get stitched up. I will post pics once I figure out how to do that from my phone.

    Before being cleaned

    After being cleaned

    After being stitched

Not as gnarly as most of the posts here but it was a little unnerving to hear the nurse say "oh there's a tendon" while she cleaned the wound.

Those yellow things are caps over the top of the long rods you see in the xrays. they're to prevent them from sticking to clothing, furniture, etc. I was able to twist the one coming out of my pinky toe, and could feel it down in the bone. As for avoiding the injury, boots would have helped tremendously, I was wearing tennis shoes, which just held the bag of skin with bones together once all was broken. This is such a common injury that a lot of riding boots are strengthened to prevent exactly this, and don't ride without boots anymore. It supposedly happens so often that I've been told doctors have a phrase for bikers called bka, which stands for Below Knee Amputation.

Got a similiar wound. As a teenager did a jump damn bike broke in half when I landed. My knee took the brunt of a bad landing. Probably should of had stitches, young and dumb, just cleaned it and taped it.
    Those were the days!

Doesn't look too brutal. But dislocated thumb from flag football. Destroyed the growth plate now my hands are different sizes. Had to get surgery to set the bone back and I cannot snap with it anymore.

Ouch. I did the street luging skateboard idea a few times. I ran over my brothers finger at the start line when we were pushing off and he lost his nail. I also thought it would be a good idea to try going head first once, and ended up peeling the entire side of my face off on the road. That was gnarly.
