Well you don't really know if she will make MH or not! :) She may...

And when it comes to hunt test and trials I will say IMO there is a difference between really being a hunter or not. It doesn't hurt to do test or trials but if you really want to hunt birds, doesn't mean in real hunting situation she will be better for it. IME only if you plan on breeding her is paying for the tests or trails is worth it. And that is if she meets breed standard. Exhibit A:

    http://www.retrievertraining.net/forums/showthread.php?121272-New-Pups-and-Hunting

Always a tough call, there is personal pride too. I miss RiverRat69 (Jim) who is in Fl. but guess he made a mistake by not being PC. Shame...

I gave up hunting waterfowl when they made us go to steel and couldn't stand the cripple rate back then. But also have a hard time shooting a bird that mates for life. Bismuth works well when I have to shoot non toxic, got drawn for SD waterfowl this year and hit the lottery so to speak. But had Dr. appointments for my son and after hearing the words remission have no regrets for not going.

A mule drawn wagon with pointers in the South hunting quail is something I always wanted to do, especially when I lived there. Hard to do with a flusher though! Hunt what you enjoy and what the dog enjoys, you will both be happy.

Just my experience, would love to hunt with you sometime. All the woodies have moved down to your neck of the woods now ;)

    Good Morning.

Planning on finishing the deer I got on Sat this morning. All I have left is mixing and grinding a couple batches of ground meat. Vacuum sealer got a workout the last couple of weeks.
Bunch of rain coming in today and Wednesday

Growing up our friends always had German Shepards, wanted one when I got my own house. Then I suddenly got allergic to animals, can't even be in a house where they are without sneezing my head off. My son is the same way.

I had those shots although it has been more than 40 years ago now  Used to stack hay on the wagon and up in the haymow for $1 an hour and could hardly breathe. Never was allergic to dogs but like you the other things eventually went away, I think the shots helped.

Cats are poison to me and always have been. Somehow they know it and when I go to someone's house they immediately come over to me and start rubbing against me. The owners usually say something like that is strange "kitty" doesn't usually approach strangers like that. I swear cats know...

My oldest Toller, the one sitting in the empty 12 pound keg of Red Dot gunpowder on the reloading bench in my avatar is now now 12 and slipping faster than I like. Don't like to think about it but it happens and is part of the responsibility I guess. Right now each and every day is a blessing and I will take it.

Talking about purebreeds and health issues to change the subject... Read several articles lately on the creator of the Labradoodle and he regrets the 'damage' he started with the designer dog. The health issues with mixed breeds is higher than most people realize. Purebreds can have enough issues even with close scrutiny and testing for hip Dysplasia, OTA in eyes, etc. Mixed breeds actually have a lot more health issues overall. Good read if anyone is interested this is just one article of many written about him and his regrets.

FWIW,The weather guy had some good news.
He said the northeast will get a bit of a break, at least for December, thanks to El Nino.
After getting hammered the last 2 winters here, I can deal with that.
