I'm happy to update I sold my cap and installed a 3" lift. With that said I'm getting way more mpg then before. I literally had to get gas at 369miles a tank. I took a recent trip and got into 400 and my light still wasn't even on yet, and I was sitting in some crazy ass traffic at a few points. I ended up getting gas because it was cheap. But I'll update when I get a good full tank.

What tire size are you running with that 3 inch lift?

I bumped my tires to 34 PSI.

Gained MPGs. Only ran one tank through it so far, but my previous tanks are usually 17.5-18.2 or thereabouts, and I was just shy of 19.25 MPG with the air pressure increase.

We'll see on the next couple tanks.

Got you. Did you notice an mpg change or power loss just with the lift? I'm trying to figure out if those things come with the lift or bigger tires.

no man, no changes. tires will deff change the power feel. im hoping not too much. ill probly go with the popular 265/75's but ive been thinking a lot about the tall skinny tires may be better at least fuel wise.

but just the lift, truck feels the same power wise

Thanks for your reply. I have a 3 inch lift and 265/75r16 tires, I don't know how the truck would feel with smaller tires since I bought the truck with this set up already on it.

    Hello, new here

Just got a new 2015 PreRunner auto with the 4 banger.

1st tank of gas was 21 mpg in mixed driving. I'm happy with that because the window sticker said 19-24.

The 2012 Nissan Frontier that this is replacing (wrecked) got 20mpg and it was the 4 cylinder with the manual tranny.

Pay no attention to the window sticker.

All 2.7 trucks and all 4.0 trucks have the same window sticker ratings (4x2 and 4x4 are different, only).

Your mileage is on par with what I got, I got a bit better actually but you don't live where I do or use my local gas and roadways.

    Welcome to the club.

Take in account you may actually be traveling more then 1mile when your truck says it's been 1mile. if your odometer hasent been calibrated to the larger diameter tires then what you are calculating is incorrect.

I thought about that already, somehow my odometer is spot on, have checked it several times with a GPS. My speedometer is slower, which makes no sense with bigger tires, but my odometer is spot on the for some reason, really weird.

I have a 2000 Prerunner Ext Cab auto tranny, stock ratio was 4:10 with 225 75 15, i was getting about 16 in the city, and about 23 highway, then i went to 16 inch wheels with 265 75 16 the bigger tires dropped the final ratio to about a 3:07. I'm getting about 13 mpg in the city and 17-20 on the highway. Not using a large lift, just coil spacers to level the front end, just about 2 inches.

I bought a new 2015 Prerunner Double Cab 2.7L 4 cylinder 4x2 last January and I am kind of concerned about the gas mileage.
Doing the math it looks like I'm only getting around 16-17 MPG and I was wondering if thats normal or if I should get it looked at.

Once I fill up it takes about 330 miles for my empty light to come on. I'm not sure how much gas is actually left in the tank once the light comes on, so maybe its fine.
I drive about 50/50 city and highway.

Anyone experiencing the same thing? Should I have it looked at?

Really depends on your driving style, where you live and modifications. I have the same truck. I live in a very flat rural area with 55 being the fastest speed limit around. I'm at sea level, I accelerate moderately and coast a bit before stops, I look ahead and adjust the throttle to what I see coming. I have taken a few highway(interstate trips) and some Pennsylvania/Western MD mountains.

With those circumstances, I have averaged 23.2MPG over the last 15,000 miles.

Are you dividing your miles traveled by what you pump into the tank? Doesn't matter what's left in the tank but most find there are 3-4 gallons in the tank when the light comes on.

I understand these trucks were designed with a slow speedometer, but an accurate odometer. So with factory-size tires, the odometer will be spot on but the speedometer will read 1-2 mph slower than actual speed. This was done in anticipation of the owners upgrading to larger tires, which is extremely common. So, if someone puts larger tires on their otherwise stock Tacoma, and depending on the exact size of the larger tires, the speedometer may be closer to accurate but the odometer will record fewer miles because the truck will travel farther on fewer tire rotations (larger tire). Your experience with larger tires does seem confusing and contradictory to my understanding as well.
