I just did all three of my driveshaft u-joints a couple months ago..........and it was fun. really enjoy banging those puppies out with my new solid brass hammer I had just bought off harbor freights. I would use a vice to put them back on so you don't loose any of the needle bearings, put extra grease in those needle bearings to help keep them in place. They usually end up a little stiff but that's normal just as long as they don't bind or feel binding when you move them by hand. There are tons of youtube videos online on how to do this job.

I have a '13 Prerunner. My shaft has 3 zerks. Where is your 4th? I hate to think I've been missing one. Thanks!!

Edit: I've felt that same vibration at the same speed. For my truck it occurs when braking with my auto tranny in gear. Not all the time, but frequently. Almost feels like the ABS system.

There are only three universal joints on the Prerunner. What I mean by four bearings are the four bearing caps on each universal joint.

Ah! Thanks. Was afraid I was missing one. So there are 4 bearings in each universal? Kinda new to this.

I had a similar vibration, it was both front wheels were out of balance and when braking from 40-20mph they would cause a rough vibration.

When were your tires last balanced?

I still have original tires. Never had them balanced. 42k miles. If they are out of balance would they vibrate all the time or only at certain speeds?

For my experience, I only noticed the vibration during braking from 40 down to 20mph. I thought it was my brake rotors had warped but it was actually both front tires were out of balance and once I had them rebalanced with new weights, the vibration vanished.

But that was my experience, yours maybe a different issue all together.

However, if you've never had them balanced and you have 42K on them, I think having the balance checked would be money well spent.

    Just a little update:

Had a local member replace the joints with spicer greasables. After pumping some grease into both joints, I thought I was done with vibrations...

I'm not, not I have vibes around 55-60mph. It's curious to me the pseed of the vibrations changed after having the joints installed. Any ideas?

It could be the carrier bearing. If you look at the drive shaft, there's a bearing halfway down. It's got a U shaped bracket holding it there. It would be worth the small effort involved to unbolt that U shaped bracket and turn it 180 degrees and bolt it back on. I've read that this has helped some people with vibrations. It's free, easy, and quick so it's worth a try.

Could it still be a driveshaft issue? I feel like the fact the vibe changed speed ranges (but again only when deaccelerating) is very peculiar.

My 2WD Prerunner does in fact have a carrier bearing.

Maybe you meant that a Regular Cab doesn't have a carrier bearing.

My bad, Jimmy you're right. It's the regular cabs that don't have carrier bearings, not 2WD

Found a TSB that was posted by tcBob 4 years ago...applies to 2013 access cab and double cab....not regular cab. Anyone know if this ultimately applied to regular cabs aswell...

I have the exact same issue going on....., Seems to be getting alittle worse every week. As I am about to paint my rims to black I will be getting the tires all balanced on the inside of the wheel. If the Vibration does stop then checking my U-joints! At this point its starting to drive me nuts!

I have the same issue but take note that it didn't start randomly occurring until I had my frame and leafs replaced. I attribute this vide to the fact that my rear is now 1 1/2inches higher than the front. Aka drive line issue. In any case I can live with it. The rear will settle a bit and hopefully the situation will resolve itself. That being said my truck is sitting at 120k in a 2005 and I would be interested in replacing my u-joints.
