My truck cap has been dusted off and put back on my truck after sitting behind my dad's garage for 8 years on cinder blocks. I bought it used about 11 years ago and have the original gasket that seals between the cap and the truck. Looking to replace it since it's misshaped and leaks. Also wondering if there should be a gasket between the cap and the rails of the bed liner that the cap sits on? I seem to be getting a little water in there too. Any idea where I should buy these gaskets/seals and specifically what kind? One size fits all?

Also, the wiring that was tucked behind the bed liner is no longer connected to anything! I discovered this when I tried connecting the center light on the cap. I imagine at one point one wire was grounded to the truck and the other ran to a tail light?

There's plenty of weatherstripping at auto parts stores or home improvement stores that can seal the rim of your truck. you just gotta get under the cap and remove the old stuff so you can put the new stuff on.

as far as the wiring goes, ground the ground wire, and tap into one of the brake lights. just like you thought. see if you can find where it was originally tapped in.

Cool. I will make that a weekend project ;) Any idea where I get a replacement for the gasket that snaps onto the cap and sits between the cap and the back window of the truck? That's where most of my water is getting in.

That looks good for between the cap and the rails of the bed. I also need that thick rubber gasket that goes between the cap and the window.

Now that one. you'll have to cut off 1/2 of an inch of it, and take a pic of it sideways so I can see the molding design. that goes throughout the whole weather stripping.

that's a little overkill. all you need is a thin strip to cushion the cap from directly contacting the rail and to give it a little water-resistance. you don't want a whole lot going on between it since it will get clamped down anyway

the op is already good with the first link you gave. i think that guy was suggesting what to use that for the space between the shell and the rear window. just google "camper boot" to find a selection

I've heard mixed reviews about the "between" moldings/gaskets and most won't be fully waterproof due to the movement of the bed :(

I've been looking for the "mega" size version of that clear tube thing (doesn't exist). would help keep the dam snow and ice outta my rear view :)

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I replaced mine with gaskets from our local Topper King shop. They were exact fits. They're all pretty general. I don't remember what it cost but they were very reasonable, cause I'm cheap.
