Or is it not needed/doesn't fit the 3rd gen?

I am also curious about the answer to this question. I just removed the ImMrYo, rearview mirror bracket that was installed in my '15 taco, that I'm going to exchange/trade-in for my recently ordered (yesterday, woohoo!) '16 taco, and I also want to know if it will fit or is needed. I will be putting my oil-catch can on my new '16, but, alas, the AFE cold air intake I had installed on my '15 will be sold on this very site (hopefully).

I haven't hear a peep either way yet. If I do I will shout it out to the masses via this thread.

Not sure you you'd need that bracket. My 2016 (DCSB OR, prem/tech package) has dual swivels. So you can put it up high without need for a bracket.

I spoke to the man himself, Immryo and he said he has had no requests for the mirror riser bracket. So I'm guessing that the mirror is mounted higher on the 16's or the added joint makes the bracket unnecessary. Anyone that had the bracket on their old truck and updated to a '16, let me know your thoughts.

I'm going to trade up from a '15 to a '16. It's not built yet, but the build completion date is November 25, and arrival at the dealership is two weeks later. Or so I have been told. Whenever I take delivery I will update this thread if it hasn't been answered definitively by then.

I would have to say it looks to be a non-issue since there has been no answer, I have to believe that someone who bought and is in possession of a 16 had to have had the bracket on their older Tacoma. But looking forward to a definitive answer just the same.

I have had my '16 Tacoma for a couple of weeks, but I have been WAY too busy to address this issue so I made time today. I took a few photos. The first is a photo of the stock mirror that shows there is still wasted space above the mirror (I have it adjusted as high as possible while still allowing me to actually see things behind the truck with it. If the mirror is adjusted any higher it [the mirror] starts to tilt towards the cab ceiling rendering the mirror useless). The second and third photos are of the aftermarket mirror from my '15 Tacoma. It contains a compass and HomeLink (why ALL Tacoma stock mirrors don't come equipped with HomeLink is something only the greedy decision makers at Toyota can answer). The aftermarket mirror was installed by the dealer prior to my taking delivery of my '15 Tacoma and the mirror has no plug receptacle on the back of the mirror. As can be seen in the third photo the power wire exits the mirror through the mirror bracket, the power wire also contains a non-standard, female plug. I would have included a photo of the plug, but it turned out too blurry to see to be of any use. At any rate, I am trying to find out how to remove the overhead console so I can see how hard the HomeLink mirror would be to wire up.
Whether I use the aftermarket mirror I have, or purchase a different one, I will be using the mirror riser bracket to gain height with the installed mirror. The design of the '16 Tacoma driver's seat is crappy (WAY too high, with no way for adjustment). The rear view mirror should simply fold down out of the headliner to allow a driver to actually use (i.e., see out of) the upper-middle portion of the windshield.
If Toyota starts using my idea in their future designs let me know. I WILL pursue my due royalties.
1st photo is stock '16 Tacoma mirror.
2nd photo is front of aftermarket mirror with compass and HomeLink.
3rd photo is back of aftermarket mirror.

I suppose I should have added that my '16 also has the dual swivels, AlanKA mentions he has, and they don't mean squat as far as I'm concerned.

Post pics once you have the riser installed.

Will do. I obviously don't have the riser currently installed, but I did set it up near the mirror for a very rough look whether it would fit. It appeared to me that it will be similar to my '15. The top of the riser will probably come very close to, or slightly touch, the headliner when installed.
I will post a pic when I get it installed.

This Christmas season is busier than . . . heck, but I will make time tomorrow to see if the plug attached to the aftermarket mirror, I have in my possession, will connect to my '16 Taco's OEM mirror plug. Without looking I will say, probably not, since I think they are both male plugs, but until I actually look I won't know. I will provide an answer tomorrow whether or not the riser will fit (I will remove the stock, non-HomeLink mirror and test fit the riser), and take at least one pic. At least you will know whether or not the riser will fit. At that point I will need to figure something else out (if my current aftermarket mirror won't simply plug in). Sorry I have been taking so long, but this time of year leaves little time for personal endeavors (pathetic excuse, but it's all I've got).

I apologize for not getting a mirror, riser bracket pic up yet, but I have been fighting the Christmas shopping crowds trying to locate a modem/wireless router for my computer. It went bad very, very soon after my previous post. It has taken me a FULL day to obtain a modem/router that will work with my ISP. Finally back on the web and am going to go work on the mirror as soon as I hit the "Post Reply" button for this message.

No worries, looking forward to seeing if it works on the 3rd gen.

Ok, just went out and proceeded with 2nd attempt. 1st attempt was yesterday, but I didn't spend very much time on it. Today I spent much more time, but unfortunately the results are the same.

Let me first apologize for not taking any photos, but when I was in the heat of battle taking photos was not a real high priority.

I removed the overhead console to gain access to more space and to better manipulate the headliner in my attempt to install the mirror riser bracket. The '16 taco has an approximate 4" metal roof brace running the width of the truck just underneath the front edge of the headliner. This brace prevents the riser bracket from sliding high enough under the headliner to fit onto the OEM mirror, bracket mount on the windshield. The riser bracket would fit IF you could slide it high enough under the headliner to fit over the OEM windshield bracket mount.

It appears the Immryo riser bracket is 17-18 mm too long to work in the '16 taco. I'm contemplating using a chop saw to shorten it that approximate amount. I just don't know if I want to invest any more time and effort into it though. Cutting the riser bracket would be easy enough, but then I would need to sand down the bare metal and repaint it black. Then it probably wouldn't match, but since it would never be seen would I care . . .

Of course I haven't even touched on the aftermarket auto-dimming, HomeLink mirror I had the dealer install on my '15 taco. It has a female plug, and the '16 taco's mirror plug is male so I was psyched until I discovered they aren't compatible. The '15 taco mirror plug is a single-row, 5-pin plug with one of the pins missing and the '16 taco plug is a double-row, ?10-pin? plug.

Now I have in my possession a no-power-anything, plain-jane mirror and an auto-dimming, HomeLink mirror removed from my '15 taco that I can't use, and the '16 taco's auto-dimming ONLY mirror in my '16 taco needs to go.

If I decide to go through with shortening the mirror riser bracket I will post whether or not it works, but for now I am done messing around with the mirror, which SHOULD HAVE been HomeLink from the factory.

My guess I will continue working on this issue because the '16 taco's OEM mirror definitely needs to be raised to gain access to some of the windshield blocked by the OEM mirror's current placement.
