I'm hoping to make RT next year. Have a bunch of stuff I need to get finished on the truck first (Gears, Locker, New front coilerovers, CB, Rear bumper) But If I go I will definitely take advantage of this pre RT awesomeness!

Here's what I think of that idea/why didn't you post this picture in the first place:

That's a long day, and I've already done Poison Spider, Gold Bar Rim, and Golden Spike backwards to the crack. That's not to say what I haven't done of Golden Spike isn't cool, just don't know if I want to hit it as of right now.

Hmm... With a big group you're right it's probably impossible to do it all in a day...

When I went in 2013, two groups of 10 or so ran it. One didn't get an early start, and made it back to camp well after dark. Plan for 12 hours + on the trail. I personally would not want to run it with more than 3-5 people.

    Yikes.
I wanna do white rim, 7 mile rim, and cliffhanger but you've already done all of those! Is cliffhanger that bad?

I've have not yet done White Rim. Cliffhanger is probably the single hardest trail my truck has ever been on.

Made it to the actual cliffhanger obstacle before turning around. James hit it without much trouble. But yeah, I would say a bit unnerving.

Oh you did turn around? Yeah it seems pretty terrible... I hated that cliff part of Kane Creek... Hated it! With heavy truck under geared and a manual tranny... It's sucky.

    Looks like a fun trip!

I was thinking about doing Lockhart Basin over Xmas. I was thinking of sticking to the main road, how difficult is it? From what I have seen there are just 2 major obstacles, otherwise fairly tame. I saw on some website that a Subaru did it, I have 2 inches of lift and a locker with 32s on my 4runner. Passable? If I filled up in Monticello could I comfortably make it to Moab on one tank or should I bring extra gas?

    Thanks for any insight guys!

Most of Lockhart is not much more than a dirt road. The only real obstacle was the canyon in the first mile or two on the north end. I could see a Subaru doing everything except this canyon. It would present a bit of a challenge for a stock 4x4, but should be doable. You should have no issue at all with your setup. You'll have no issue making that run on one tank of gas, but never hurts to carry extra for the hell of it.

Also, I highly recommend taking the couple mile out and back of Lockhart Canyon. Fun drive through a sandy wash that gets you right down to the river.

This picture of Eric's gives you a good idea of one of the harder obstacles.

I was thinking I would run it South to North, so that would mean I go down the valley?

I will for sure check out the river! Thanks for the heads up. I have camped at hamburger rock, so I have wanted to check out this road for a while....

Oh, that is not too bad!

Yep. South to North means you would be going down the hardest obstacles. Should make it even easier. Have fun, it's an amazing trail!
