cat back installation vs muffler install

just wondering if anyone had experience installing either cat back system or a muffler.

correct me if im wrong with a cat back you can just cut and weld/ or un screw and bolt on from the cat back. it would be cleaner.

however with the muffler you just cut it half way and it makes the old stock muffler useless if you ever wanted to resell or ,reinstall for resale.

is this correct?

also any links to reasons why i should go cat back or muffler would be greatly appreciated.

 

Cat back is a VERY easy install. Just did mine last friday night. It literally took 20 mins. You unbolt the old at the y-pipe, remove it from the rubber hangers, twist it out over the axle, reverse for new one. Here are more detailed instructions:

If you're basing your decision on ease of install, cat back is the way to go. Don't have to get a shop to weld or install. Just getting a new muffler is cheaper though.

 

isnt the point of a cat back to provide better flow through the exhaust tubing and muffler, but if the exhaust tubing is all mandrel bent in our trucks anyways does this defeat the point? along with the fact that it will still be restricted from the y pipe forwards?

if this is true wouldn't it be more practical to just replace the muffler?
