    I don't want it to bounce around too much since I always have it on. Is the spring really necessary? And if I don't like the red white and blue I can always put a coat of paint on it or sell/trade it.
    This one lasted over a year, I'll be okay without a spring.

    Without the spring, on the trails it could break. Why not just go with a solid color then? If you don't want to run a spring you could go with what @Taco No Baka has which is a Firefly, more flexy

    I don't run a spring on my Firestik 2. It's mounted at the rear stake pocket. It's survived a few years in Ocala on my Ranger and I just installed it on my Tundra. I have seen them break without the spring, but its usually when they're mounted on roof racks.

    My 2' FS2 lasted 20+ years and is still functional even though I replaced it with a 3' FS Firefly to get better SWRs. Your antenna should last a lot longer than a year, so yes, a spring is necessary if you take your truck offroad. If you get a heavy spring like Mike's it's not going to flop around too much. I even have my Firefly mounted on a medium spring. It's a little floppy, but I want it to be so it doesn't tear a hole in my roof.

    I've been running Firefly 4' with a spring on order, was on 275 today going a decent speed and it was flexy but I was listening to all the semis talk

    The stick I have now was radio shack brand so I didn't expect it to last long. I'll probably get a heavy duty spring if anything.

    Make sure any spring you get is stainless steel. Preferably an actual Firestik spring. There are ones out there that are chrome plated brass or something and will take on a permanent bend the first time you hit interstate speeds.

    edit: Right Channel is where I get my stuff from too. :thumbsup:

    Found the same antenna for $17 cheaper on Amazon. Ordering a firestik heavy spring with it also. Going to order it before citrus but not right now.

    I think I got my 9' Fire Ring coax from Amazon since Right channel didn't have it in 9'.
