I had my TWSS give me a Uniden PRO 520XL cb radio for my 4runner build.

    Thanks bud @adanfon

The thing with these cb radios is that they fit PERFECTLY in the ashtray location on the 3rd gen 4runners.

Give you a clean, stockish look:

To be able to achieve this, I remove the radio/ac bezel on the 4runner:

I pulled the ashtray out and remove these two screws:

    Test fitting the CB radio:

Trimmed the end brackets off with a dremmel tool and test fitted again:

Used two strips of velcro between the plastic prongs and the top of the radio.
This holds the CB radio in place:

    Connected my PL59 connector:

Dont forget to order pizza. If you dont, this MOD will NOT WORK:

    Looks like Arizona is winning:

So now I proceed to run the coaxial wiring for the cb radio. I purchased this mount from a member on T4R.org. The mount installs in the back hatch:

Picked up the firering coaxial cable, the 18 feet version:

I ran the coaxial cable from the front of the 4runner towards the back:

Under the carpet on the driver's side:

Under the door floor plastic panel front and rear:

I then removed the plastic paneling in the rear driver's side area by the seat:

Removed the driver's side back cargo paneling:

Ran it thru this yellow vent thing:

    Here it is!

I then hid it from view by running it behind the bumper:

Made sure to install the cable like this:

Thank you sir. I am going to run it in reverse order since it maybe a bit till I get my CB in. Gives me a project for when I get back from Vegas. Question did you have to loosen the bumper at all, or did it fit between the gaps? Trying to remember if I have enough gap to fit it through.

I went ahead and finally did the wiring for the winch this weekend.

    Well most of it.

The reason it took me forever to get the wiring done was because I couldnt find a good spot to install my winch solenoid box.

I wanted the controls to be accessible and I also wanted the box in a good spot where it wouldnt take too much space or require me relocating stuffss..

I give credit to @BigFishAllDay build thread on T4R.org for this idea.

Changed a few things, but the concept is all the same.

So here is this big clunky thing:

If I open it, I get a smaller clunky thing:

The idea is to take the solenoid out of the box and mount it directly without a box.

I studied the wiring, made sure I knew where everything was going and what every wire was.

I decided to mount the controller jack inside the 4runner. These wires for the controller jack will be cut and extended with the connection inside the cab:

before I cut the wires, I went ahead and removed the main lead wires and wrapped the solenoid in thick electrical tape to make it "waterproof"

I cut off the winch controller jack and crimped on connectors at the solenoid and controller jack:

Not only did i crimp them, but i also soldered the wiring on there for a dependable connection:

Then I picked up some color matching wire and made the harness to extend the controller jack into the cabin of the 4runner:

Once all this was complete, I looked for a suitable location for the taped solenoid.

I saw a nice spot next to the battery:

Its a little dark, but you get the idea. I Like the fact I can use the factory hole to run wires thru.

    Installed solenoid:

Obviously the wiring that the winch came was not long enough for this location. I had to make my own wiring:

I ran the wiring from the solenoid thru the hole in the inner fender and towards the winch:

I then ran my controller jack wiring towards the 4runner cabin:

Made all the connections for the controller jack wiring, taped them up nice and well to prevent any moisture from reaching the connections.

I decided to get rid of these dummy switches and buy a tan switch blank to install my jack here:

    after installing winch jack:

@BigFishAllDay did you ever have any long term problems with this mod?

Have you decided where are you going to put the controller plug in the cab? Here is where I put mine.

I did not. It is still in that outer plastic box. I thought that box would offer a bit more resistance to the elements that way. I did seal it up a bit better tho with a little strategically placed silicon.

I haven't experienced it myself, but I've read that the contractor, that piece that handles all of the winch power, is or has been vulnerable to corrosion. So I didn't want to expose it further.

My controller box is tucked into my bumper, in the passenger side wing next to the winch. Since I have a plate bumper it is hidden from sight.
