All of those silver shavings are just there to make the Gear oil sparkly right? :annoyed:

Does anyone know where to purchase 4:10 gears for the front differential?
Debating on buying a used one or rebuilding current one.
    Thanks

I finally got this installed. Here are a few pics:

The job would have been impossible without this crowbar I think. I used it to lock the rotor so I could remove the hub nut, also to pop the CV and seal off, then to push the CV back on.

    Pop CV with crowbar.

    Pop seal with crowbar.

    Seal off.

Drilled holes in the bearing extraction tool so I wouldn't lose it inside the diff.

Further modify ECGS tool to fit inside the bearing. Rather than change the diameter of the tool I chose to bevel it so that it can be angled into position behind the bearing.

One further modification to the tool with the grinding wheel so that I can grip it with the vise grips and prevent the threaded rod from turning. Without this mod you don't really have enough nuts to do the job
    [IMG]

Extract old bearing. Tool wired so I don't lose it inside the diff.

Add spacers for the last bit of the pull.

    Drive the bushing in.

Check that the bearing is going in straight.

I needed the crowbar again to drive the CV back on.

Setup for driving the CV back on. I'm embarrassed to say how long this took, giving the flange a few wacks and then turning the hub nut with the wrench and repeating. I'm thinking there must be a better way.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. Is the bushing applies for both driver and passenger axles or just driver side?

Just drivers. Passenger uses a bigger bearing that doesn't give as many issues I believe

Yes. That is what they told me as well. They don't make anything for the passenger side.

I still can't believe Toyota never issued a TSB on this for 1st gens. Mine has been doing it since my truck had 35K miles or so. And my 4runner just started doing it a couple months ago. 4runner is on the list tho, so it's going in to be fixed.

To answer you question about removing/replacing the axle nut yes there is, a pneumatic impact wrench! Makes it very short work..old post I know, just wanted to throw in my .02c

Maybe this is my problem...I just installed a 3" lift with 5100's and toytec coils. now I have a significant vibration starting at 50 mph. Never had a problem before the lift. I have since then replaced lower ball joints, tie rod ends and new cv axles. Lowered the springs to the lowest setting , which now sets at 2" of lift. Alignment is spot on also. Could this be my problem also? I haven't tried driving it in 4hi yet. Any advice is appreciated. thanks.
