so I decided to step away from the tacomaworld wagon of duratracs and STTs and try out the new Cepeks.

Now my last set of MTs were Nitto trail grapplers 315/70/17. At first I loved the tires and they performed great. But as I quickly learned, their weight was a huge downfall. They were always great off-road in the Florida mud. But on the highway they quickly got very loud. They were almost unbearable at highway speeds after 30k miles. So I stuck with they up until 45k miles and finally gave into these new Dick Cepeks.

I stayed with the same size and was shopping around for a lighter tire after those lead heavy Nittos. These Dick Cepeks weighed in at 62lbs which is about 15lbs less the nittos at the same size.

First issue I came across was balancing. My trusted local tire shop had a tough time with these tires. Two tires and heavy spots and took quite abit of weight to get them balanced.

The deep thick lugs have a great aggressive look and after very light off-road testing, I have no hesitations getting these in some deep mud ruts. (Hopefully this weekend)

On road manners are very nice. They have a decent hum to them at all speeds but not as bad I thought they would given the size of lugs and deep voids. They track much better than my Nittos and the shredded weight is very noticeable in the wheel tension. Now it's been raining the last two days so I have been able to give them a good wet traction test. And they are great! I can not break them loose from a stop! They just grab and dig.

I'm excited to see the longevity of these tires because they feel soft. I'm not expecting them to go the distance of a STT or a Toyo. But we shall see.

I'm sure I'll add more stuff as I learn more about these tires. Feel free to ask some questions

Saw these announced last spring and was instantly interested. IMO, they look a lot like a STT Pro with a bit tighter center pattern, definitely an agressive AT or a slightly mild MT.
I too have Trail Grapplers at the moment, they've only got 12k miles on them but are already at 1/2 tread. Might wait on a few more reviews and try and see these in person, but they're definitely a contender for next tire on my truck.

For the average guys like me without retail connections the price is hard to beat considering MTs. I used tirebuyer.com and they shipped them same day $970 shipped. No complaints at all

Id consider these MTs. The lug size and voids are substantial compared to ATs.

One difference I felt quickly compared to the Nittos is the softer sidewalls. They have a "new" 2ply constructed sidewall which is made to save weight. But they have noticeable sidewall weakness on pavement on sharper cornering.

Edit* running 40 psi right now on road.

Looks good! Anxious to hear how they do off-road.

Ok I've put about 2k miles on these now and some off-road testing.....

No complaints at all. First off. I can't spin these tires on wet roads. From a stop. On a turn. They won't spin. They grab and freaking GO. I had to slam on the brakes the other day and they stopped great as well.

Off road they are impressive. Remember I'm coming from Nitto MTs which are good mud tires. But these outperform the nittos hands down. They stay clean in mud and continue to pull. Even from a stop they pull right out. That didn't happen with my nittos.

The shedded weight is great on the highway. Much easier to keep it in cruise control at 70mph for 35s. Better pickup as expected too.

No complaints at all with these tires. I hope to see more reviews on these tires from others.

    Nice deep lugs. 40 psi

Not that anybody cares.... But IMO these tires are awesome. I finally hit the muddy trails today and these tires were a life saver. The same trails that I've been on before with previous MTs and these were hands down the best diggers. From the soft mucky mud to soft sand these tires never hesitated. Hell, I was barely in 4h today.

The only time they got hairy was in soft sandy/mud that got me about hub deep. They spun all 4 but they backed right out and went around the high side no problem.

Nothing but positive yet on these tires. I'm not much of a critique writer but I know a good tire when I see one.

Nice I was considering these. I know DC tires have been around since the good old days and were always popular in the south for the mud guys. Glad you like them and the truck looks killer! Don't worry that people show now interest. They're all looking...

Okay so I have to jump in on this thread. I'm jumping up to 295s after the first year with my truck and doing as much as the wife would let me with our first on the way I had put this build on hold. The obvious move by everyone in my situation is 285/70/17 GYD's. But with this type of feedback from some of the same trails/sand etc I get up in NY these sound perfect. Now my buddy has a JK and he's claiming its Toyo or bust but I just think that a 72lb tire is insane and regearing to a minimum of 4:56 is a must.... Anyway How are they continuing to wear?

Yeah bud so far I have loved them. Great off road tire. I will never go back to a tire as heavy as my nittos (same as toyos) they seem to be wearing good. I'm rotating them this next week and have no complaints at all

I've been looking at getting a set of these because they're in my price range. Any update on how these are wearing? Where do you drive mostly?

I've put 15k on them so far. They're wearing ok, granted I've only rotated them once. Front the looks I might be looking at getting 40k out of them. I've been doing a lot of highway driving lately so that doesn't help either.

But they still have great bite in the mud. I go through trails in 2wd with these that I had to switch to 4wd with my old nittos. They crawl through anything

My buddy has been running these for a few months. He loves 'em. Affordable, does very well in the rain, offroad, and on dry pavement. Also very quiet for a mud tire.

Anyone have a snow experience with these?

Also, why in the heck did they put that silly DC logo in the tread!?!?!?!

My buddy and I hit some snow in the hills a few months ago. He's running these tires in 33x12.5R17 and did well in 2-3 feet of snow. They float well if you don't spin and dig quick if you spin. Gripped well for an aggressive tire in packed snow/ice. He's happy with his purchase.

Unfortunately he's dealing with a bad tire now though. Has a heavy spot and won't balance. He's trying to get it replaced under warranty.

A couple observations I've noticed between these tires and my STT Pros. His are wearing faster and spin more on wet pavement than mine do. His are also getting louder as they wear.

I now have 22k miles on mine and they do spin more than when new, that's expected. But they seem to be wearing alright and the noise has stayed consistent. Much less than my nittos.
