Can i add a tail gate lock on my 15 tacoma? Came with backup cam but no tailgate lock. Kinda makes my tonneau cover useless for security.

Soft tonneau? It's useless for security even with a tailgate lock.

Hard tonneau that you can't slip a pocket knife through? Better chance of some security.

Just be sure to read all of the post/threads about how often these things fail. Especially in salty/winter climates. I desperately need a way to lock the tailgate, but I refuse to put one of these on. I'm thinking about a way to bolt or weld some hoops to the tailgate and bed so I can just padlock when needed. Kind of a ghetto approach, but at least I know it'll work.

I just had a pop and lock tail gate lock installed. This version uses your fob to lock/unlock, BUT can also use your ignition to open the lock manually. I bought it because I have a locking cover for the bed. This keeps my stuff locked up in the bed, as well as prevent the tailgate from being stolen. The assembly costed $157 plus shipping.

I believe it's a backflip (4 section) hard cover that I installed when I first bought the truck in OCT of 2015. Anything can be broken into, but it seems secure. I keep the truck garaged with my SRT (avatar photo). I wanted a little protection when the truck is in parking lots while I'm shopping. Sometimes I have to leave the stuff I bought in there when I'm going to different stores.

I plan on getting bigger tires and rims, some beefed up bumpers and those side step entry bars (not sure what those are called as I'm new to the truck world). I do love this truck!

i have a pop n lock. in theory its amazing. works great with hard tri-fold cover.

but ive only had it for like 4 months. and the snow and salt from this winter has already taken its toll. it sticks and jams up, and just generally feels kinda weak and bad. just sprayed the thing with graphite lube, inside and out. hopefully that gives it some longevity.

either way, i might just install a new one every other year or something.

How is all of that getting into the lock? Is the tailgate that leaky or is it getting through the key slot?

I'm considering one for my 2016 when it arrives.

i sprayed a little into the key slot. then i took the rear tailgate panel off (which you do when you install it) and sprayed some on the latch mechanism as well

and i dont know how the salt is getting in there. prob a mix of the key slot and along the edges of the plastic handle, i doubt its water tight.

They get a bad rap from many TW members, but, mine has been flawless - adjusted the tailgate latches to take some pressure off the rubber tailgate bumpers, my tailgate can be opened with one finger, taking much pressure off the latch assembly.

Is that adjustment procedure in the manual?

It comes with a manual key lock. I'm not aware of it coming with an electronic lock. Is that what you're referring to?
